You used mauifrog's guide (a very good one), so your cIOS setup will be a bit different than the standard. You need to update 247-250 with the following bases/versions:
247[37] d2x v6
248[56] d2x v6
249[38] d2x v6
250[57] d2x v6

People are having trouble with the latest version of the installer, so use v2.1. You won't miss out on anything:

PS: Don't delete anything.

I saw one of your other post @
http://gbatemp.net/t305141-hermes-waninkok...t&p=3834406

And I went to update my 202, 224, 249 and 250 according to the post stated. Is that incorrect? Why is my setup so indifferent from the standard? How can you tell it's mauifrog's guide i've long forgotten about it lol.

Hi, I would like to ask if my Wii are still able to read retail disc after following this guide: http://gbatemp.net/t171901-modify-any-wii-4-3-below. I apologize beforehand if this question seem idiotic but I have could not find a straight answer through the search option. I have read that NEOGAMMA? or DARkCORP? can read retail disc but I am simply using backups. Thank you and I appreciate any help offered.

I can tell it's mauifrog's guide because the versions of several IOS's are v54321, you have IOS90, and the basic cIOS setup.

I said that it your setup was going to be different from the standard. Normally Configurable USB Loader would use 249, but mauifrog has it configured to use 248 instead. That's why base 56 goes in 248. 249 gets base 38 for compatibility with older apps.

Install things like I said and it will be fine.

am i correct?

You mentioned Configurable USB Loader, however i'm using USB Loader GX for my backups. Would this be a problem?
You were saying ios248 is configured to be used instead of 249, is this the reason why i can't find 249 in wiiflow's IOS selection?
If that is the case, why am i able to select 249 under USB Loader GX?

I will post my systemcheck again when i reach home

hacking friend's 4.3 LU73 wii. attempting to install darkcorp results in wii restarting, using the 1.11 .dol results in xml error. replaced 1.1 files 3 times, no dice. Before get usb loader is stated, he doesnt even have an sd yet, and his balls are inert so the easiest thing for him would be backups through disc channel. Oh also disc loading in Uloader return error -2

just one more thing to pster about, i got everything working just fine, however, configurable usb loader doesn't recognize two things, one is major one is really minor (i would just like the second thing to work =])

first: my 80 gig ipod doesn't read in configurable usb loader it just brings me to retry screen, and retries a couple of times before i exit out, i put it in disk mode, and i partitioned it..

second: the covers don't show up for the games.

I didn't realize you were using GX. Config has better compatibility and stability than both GX and WiiFlow, which is why mauifrog includes it in his guide. I suggest you delete GX (including the usb-loader folder in the root of your SD card) and get the latest version of Cfg.

If you are going to stick with WiiFlow and GX (and I suggest you don't), just leave your IOS's alone.

ok i've used cfg for the night and i'm quite happy with it therefore i will be sticking to it. However it seemed that cfg defaults to 249 ios too. Is this correct?
Currently all games played fine for me using with my latest IOS posted in the last post, therefore would you still advice me to repatch them again?

Alright guys, super nooby, but is triiforce still the go-to for running virtual console stuff via harddrive?
All threads on the subject are at least a year old, so I figure something may have changed?

Also, in what way is NTFS less stable than fat/other partition types? I've been running my 2tb hd with NTFS and just a folder titles wbfs for some time and never noticed any in game slowdown or glitching or anything bad at all.

I feel like a fool for posting a separate topic; no excuse for my ignorance I should have spent a second long reading and I would have seen this thread, my apologies...

Anyway here is my question:

I have a hacked Wii, I believe 4.2 -- I want to get the netflix channel up and working but I need to get it from the shop channel which needs to be updated. I obviously don't want to do a system update so I'm asking here. I do recall updating the shop channel sometime in the past but unfortunately I've completely forgotten how to do it. Could someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance.

im lookin into external hard drives
this is a bargain for 160 GB, I was wondering if it is compatible?
it will likely work, but i wouldn't call it a bargain. ...you can get ~10x the drive space for ~2x the price. amazon/newegg have been blowing out the WD 1.5TB drives for $60 lately....

brausm08 thank you very much for you help!

Is there by chance any other alternative to ModMii, didn't realize it was windows only -- Linux user here
Softmod ANY Wii is another excellent guide.

Wii is already modded; I'm just looking for one of the IOS downloaders -- it looks like ModMii just makes heavy use of wget -- not sure exactly what else it uses I've not fully installed it yet; is the source available? or perhaps one of the devs might see this -- I would be willing to help with a Linux port.

Hey Guys, I am thinking about Hacking my wii with the Letterbomb exploit so I can play alot of Homebrew and play my Wii games from a USB Stick.

1. I only have the 2 GB SD card that came with my 3DS. Can I use that to install the Letterbomb exploit?

2. If yes, Can I return to using my SD card with my 3DS or do I need to initiate the Letterbomb expoit each time I turn my wii on?

3. Since I wont be using a SD card after using the exploit. Can Anything be used with USB a Stick? Homebrew, Emulators, Backups? No need for a sd card after the hack is installed?

4. Can I use any USB Thumb Drive? as long as its formatted to NTFS and it fits into the USB port? Becuase I have a ton of 8 and 16GB Sony USB Thumb Drives lying around.

Thanks.

Hi guys,

Im trying to save a bricked wii which happened some time ago and im waiting for a game that has the update 4.3, so the question is...

1. Is there a game with the 4.3 update?

Basically i boot up wii > shows the error msg = meaning a full brick or so

No i dont have the nand backup or bootmii or preloader installed..... cuz this happened a while back, nowadays there are many ways to prevent that i get it... so i apologize for the noobness back then

i did savemii which boots and showed the firmware which is 4.2E....

so the next step i need to do is insert a game disc that has the 4.3 update and........ im not really sure wat happens next but im guessing it updates to 4.3

also..

2. Wat happens when u do update the bricked wii, does it just go back to wii menu.... everything is fine after that?

3. i lost my savemii but b4 that i found out that it works on the bricked wii so could i use savemifrii to go into recovery mode instead?

any help will save me a wii
thx tempers

Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)

when SD cards/microSD write speeds drop below a meg a sec, they're usually on the verge of dying
