@Kafluke This would be beyond my immediate knowledge. Any chance you can provide a guiding hand?
Did you follow my guide and backup the nand? If you followed some other guide and didn't backup your nand then I don't know how to help.

I'm not talking about wad backups. Look at step 4 in the noob guide. Did you do this step before bricking your vWii?

you could try and use hbl2hbc if you have homebrew channel installed. if it loads then you could have an easy way out, or at least a way of knowing what's wrong using syscheck. if it fails then you need to use a hardmod with something or replace files one by one using FTPiiU until you can load it (assuming you can get this much access). what were you doing when your vWii bricked anyways? this could also tell us what the problem is and probably get you a solution sooner.

@Kafluke I followed the FlimFlam69 guide when I did the vWii Smash hack: https://github.com/FlimFlam69/WiiUTutorial/wiki/7:-vWii-Modding

I also used bluedump-mod-master and xyyzy in HBC on the vWii

Does that help?
Maybe it would be more helpful if you tell us what you did to brick it.

I was talking about step 4 in the Wii U noob guide stickied here on temp. It makes a full backup of your Wii U nand and vWii Nand. I don't know what you can do with the files you created using dumpmiinand. Or wad files.

Can you use HBL2HBC? Have you tried that? If you can get into HBC that way you can fix whatever you did.

Hey @EyeKey , a thought. Youd be a hero (again) if you made a Wii U homebrew app that restored the vWii backup that Wii U Nand Dumper makes with a single action. No teensy needed? Or FTPu everywhere? I dunno. Youd know way more about that than me.

Reporting back: @Kafluke @HunterMK8 HBL2HBC does not work unfortunately. It loads to the same vWii black screen.

The way in which I bricked my vWii is just careless and stupid, so please excuse me:

I modded my original Wii years ago and when Zelda BOTW came out, I got a WiiU and modded it, so I could pass off the Wii to a friend. I hacked the vWii with a 1gb SD, then brought over the 32gb SD from my original Wii. Everything was fine except for that I couldn't get USBloader working with a USB drive to load Wii/GC games. I've been playing Zelda for so long that I didn't touch the vWii until months later (today). So i was messing around trying to get different versions of USBloader working and decided I would try WiiFlow. BUT (and here is the stupid part), I saw Priiloader in HBC and though, "that should be installed as a backup and I probably haven't yet", obviously forgetting everything from vWii hacking guides that advised against doing so. I installed Priiloader in HBC, it failed (obviously), I turned off the unit, took my SD, put WiiFlow on it for installation, then booted back up the WiiU, then the vWii into the black screen of death.

So now I need to figure out how to get vWii running again... and here I am. Please help! I miss my Wii games...

Any help in rectifying my blunder is extremely appreciated!

you could be in luck man.
i believe Priiloader only patches system menu to be able to boot before it (i dont know if the real menu or IOS80 is patched.) this could be fixed by replacing the menu files with vanilla files. i cant link them since they might be copyrighted, and even then it isnt allowed here. you could most likely just inject it using the theme injector tools. i wouldnt get your hopes too high though, as from what ive seen, priiloader bricks are rare but usually result in a binned wii u.
ive fixed a "The system files have been corrupted" (corrupted sys menu) with the theme tools before while messing with themes
if this doesnt work then you could go another way by acquiring IOSU access and modifying slccmpt01/title/00000001/00000002/content/ with vanilla NTSC files

EDIT: link to tools i believe you need Python 2.7 for these to work correctly

Any chance you could talk me through this in more detail on a medium where we can "speak" freely?

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though

    I appreciate the insight!
