Hey @Waygeek and @H1B1Esquire!
I am still adding some small things, like the golden idol or boulder, but got a regular job and after now slightly more than a year of SpelunkyDS I'm less excited about it than in the beginning, and doing other hobby projects like SpelunkyPSP:

actually the PSP version is just a demo, probably won't invest much time in it, but who knows maybe some day I'll deliver Spelunky back for the PC lol.

If anyone interested, code for the PSP version is here:
https://github.com/dbeef/spelunky-psp

How in the world did this slip through the cracks?! I'd love to see some sort of release for this! I was looking for a Spelunky PSP port recently and couldn't find it, only to find this buried in the Spelunky DS thread.
I speak on behalf of a few of my friends (and a huge Reddit Spelunky/PSP fan with too much money on his hands) as well when I say I'd love to see Spelunky PSP go places. The Vita version exists, which is great, but there's something about my PSP go... :D

If you need any help on the port, please contact me, and I'd be sure to tell a few other PSP devs around the place as well.

On a more on-topic note, this DS remake is really nice and must have required a lot of work, so kudos to you for this.

This port is very good! I've been playing it on my DSi. The controls seem a little odd, at least with the way bombs work, but I'm used to the Vita version. I did have a spider land on me without damaging me, but so far I haven't experienced any gamebreaking bugs.

Also chiming in with support for the PSP version! Would love to have that!!

@MrHB not as much as before. The newest, stable release is on github:
https://github.com/dbeef/spelunky-ds/releases

I was planning on some controls.txt file that you could drop on your card alongside .nds file, but currently changing controls would be a matter of recompiling game from source code.

It has been months since the last update so I assume the project is on hold?

I know you put a lot of time and effort into this project and it's a shame that not many people know about it so I just wanted to say thank you again for having done this.

I hope that one day you can return the project and complete it.

So this project is pretty much dead, right?

I certainly hope not. But there's not been any commits to the GitHub from @0xdbeef since June '19, and it seems like he's not interested in the NDS port now as much as he is in working on the PSP port.

EDIT: I found this statement by the OP himself in his blog - in the last paragraph of the article he wrote about it:
Today, Spelunky-DS is discontinued, with only the cave level implemented out of 4 different levels in the original game, but in any other aspect, completely working and playable.

Maybe he'd be willing to hand the project off to someone willing to try to continue it?

Has someone decided to take up the mantle after it was discontinued about 4 years ago? Or has it been left in the dust completely?

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    but that's a long shot

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds

It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
