About the ban thing, it will be permanent if Nintendo want it. My brother tried to use stolen credit card on my recently brought N3DS and I'm permanently banned due to "security reasons", Nintendo says. I can't enter the eshop, I get the error 005-5964. I'm able to update the system but not the games.

But after the downgrade to 9.2, I can do anything on my console that a non-banned 3DS user can do (updating games via CIA). They don't block you from playing online, they block you to be able to update so you can't play. Before the downgrade, I was able to play Kid Icarus online without any troubles, even banned, because it haven't any updates for online play.

Currently my N3DS is banned, with 9.2 sysnand and 10.4 emuNand with Reinand CFW, and I can play all games online just fine.

So this ban thing it's not that all to worry about, at least my type of ban. I don't know if there others ways, I'm posting this for knowledge purpose, more we know about theses bans, more we can avoid it.

Just in case this hasn't been posted yet, if you own a N3DS and plan on updating to 10.5, and you use Menuhax 2.1, please uninstall it before you update because that version is incompatible with 10.5 firmware. I had to learn it the hard way after deciding to update my N3DS, where it caused a brick like situation.

Don't panic! You can still fix this!:

1. Turn off the console and remove the SD card
2. Turn it on and you should see the normal menu
3. Insert the SD card
4. Change your theme

If you're fond of Menuhax, go ahead and get 2.2, because it's the only one compatible with this version right now.

Does the 3DS have to be on the latest version for Streetpass to work?
And should I get myself rxTools 3.0? I'm on an O3DS with 2.6 rxTools.

You could backup your existing rxTools in your SDcard and try the newest Nightly. If it doesn't work, delete the nightly and restore your backed up rxTools folder(the 2.6 one). :D That's what I had done.

Be careful though, because the newest builds don't require the firmware.bin, but the "firm" folder which is downloaded from a script(cdn_firm.py) inside the nightly .zip

Is anyone elses japanese cias disappearing on their US 10.5 emunand when they enter friendlist or web browser? and then they reappear when you reboot the console as wrapped presents with the save still intact?

Yeah I'm on o3ds rxtools emuNAND 10.5 and sysNAND 9.2

I think that's normal, because when you run a system applet on O3DS (e.g., friends list, browser, notes), the home menu actually closes, meaning that the home menu "forgot" you opened the out of region presents when it comes back.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
