It's a bit of a silly claim to say that this is comparable to what you've experienced on PS3 or PS4 considering both are equipped with SATA-II interfaces which they do not even fully saturate. Only the PS4 Pro is equipped with a SATA-III interface capable of fully benefitting from an SSD, but even it bottlenecks transfer rates.

The temp is behind again! Sony confirmed the ssd and 7200rpm hdd both being used in the ps5 a month+ ago. Additional other specs too. The confirmed PS5 specs are also identical to the rumored Xbox specs. It’s going to be an interesting launch for these systems.

So fun facts about well at least the OG PS4. The harddrive bay is actually not connected like you think. Its bottle necked with a USB-3 connection. The Blu-Ray drive is SATA-3 but not the HDD. So some of my friends were thinking about upgrading their harddrives for more space. There are a few of us who don't view money as an obstacle. I started looking into what the best SSD (best price vs more storage) for the OG PS4 would be. Short answer, if money is TRULY no obstacle, then any SSD is fine, just get enough space. But doing a little research taught me that any SSD would be kneecapped at less than half its speed potential but the cables AND chipset available on the board. You know, the ones that do the data decoding. The best option is actually a Seagate 2TB hybrid drive with 8GB of SSD. The 8GB allows the drive to "shingle" its data and load the more frequently loaded bits into the RAM faster. After a few loads into a game (5 is the magic number I think) your HSSD will be approaching the kneecapped limits of any SSD you would chuck into the PS4. When playing Anthem, a game known for its monstrous loading times on console, I played with a friend who had a stock PS4 Pro (with better databus handling) and another friend with an OG PS4. Both me and the friend with the OG PS4 both had the hybrid drives. We noticed that we were out speeding our third friend with the Pro by 10 to 15 seconds each time we loaded into the open world.

    TL;DR
The PS4 and PS4 Pro have pathetic databus speeds.
Of course an SSD and appropriate hardware and going to make a huge difference.

Also I don't care so much about fps all that often, and yes while 30fps on most console games is kinda the bare minimum anymore, I am ok with it. AS LONG AS ITS LOCKED AT 30. Dropping frames when your game runs at 30fps is unacceptable. Also games like Monster Hunter World suffered in BOTH directions. As far as I could tell, the game just ran at whatever the system had the ability to run at. Sometimes I would be charging around the world in ~40fps. Sometimes there would be lots of stuff to render and I would drop into the 20fps range. And weirdest of all, sometimes you would kill a monster and- weeeeee there goes my frame rate approaching 60fps??? Anyways my point is this. I am sick of hearing all these companies waggling their dicks over higher resolutions. I don't have a 4K tv. I don't plan on getting a 4K tv anytime soon. My little 27" Vizio is full 1080p with HDR. There aren't a lot of people who have adapted to 4K yet. And certainly almost no one with 8K. The average gamer doesn't even care. Even if they do, most don't know that their TV can't do 4K, their TV is doing all the work (since there isnt much 4K content anyways, or they don't have the necessary HDMI cables anyways. 4 and 8K are industry buzzwords to stimulate the uneducated into salivating over technology that they probably can't even tell the difference. Akin to just getting everyone to shout "What beautiful clothes, Emperor Sony!" I am here to yell "The emperor has no clothes."

    TL;DR 2
Stop focusing on these ridiculous resolutions and give me locked 60fps on all games.

If Sony or whoever would give me a solid statement (you know, and back it up) saying "all games you can play on your PS4 will run at a minimum of a locked 60fps, I would chuck my PS4 right out the window and buy a new one. I don't give a crap about resolution, HDR and your other bullshit sound ray tracing. Give me a rock steady 60fps. Use the extra power to make every single game better for everyone, not the select few who want to be early adopters into the 8K TV market.

Theese "news" are weeks old... And stupid also (not the News beeing here) but Sony making them. I mean, cmon. The next Gen will be 4k opted.

I would love to see the same games loading time on a ps4 with a SSD upgradet. I bet it will be somewhere around 1.5-2 secs, wich is a significant increase in speed only from a damn hard drive.

I dont care for slow loading times, if the models walk like they got sticks up their arse (yeah Red Dead Redemption, im looking at you). Gimme some actual physics processor so movement finally looks real and less clunky.

Ray tracing apparently allows for more than pretty graphics... Read an interview mentioning this, but I can't remember where. It was when the specs of the system were first "announced"...

I remember when I first got SSDs the price was over $1 per GB but it was still worth it for a small drive to boot windows from. Now SSDs are very affordable even at 1TB+ sizes but even still I don't know why Sony and Microsoft didn't include them in the Xbox One X or PS4 Pro when those released. Even a small cache drive + HDD combo would have been a great improvement., Sony(and probably Microsoft) are going now going to add them to consoles and act like it's some revolutionary modern device even though an SSD has been one of if not THE best things to add to your computer(in terms of the user experience improvements for the price it costs) for a very long time.

Considering the fact that they've only just showcased it, we're very much ahead, not behind. Rumours and speculation are one thing, official demonstrations are another.

If it is going to be 8k and will have SSD and ray tracing, this will cost the same as a pc gamer

What a load of marketing bullshit. Of course SSD is faster than HDD, you captain Sony Obvious.

And as a owner of 1080Ti, it even still struggles at 4K on newer games but 1440p is the sweet spot to have no bottleneck due to i7-4770.
AMD hasn't been really competitive in the high-end segment of the GPU's, they are popular on the mid-end segment like the RX570 and RX580. And about Navi...no one knows for sure but one thing is certain: 8K is bullshit. And not to mention the GPU temperatures. The higher resolutions, the higher temperatures will be.

I doubt the power that has been promised, all that I can see is true is the fact it has a SSD.

It will probably "have 8k" in the same way the ps4 "has 4k".

ssd and ray tracing will be cheap in the quantities that sony buy.

the amd hardware, compared to original ps4 has a good 5-7 times more juice (in terms of tflops, anyway). they also seem to be upgrading the other stuff, so I'm expecting it'll be able to do 1080p60fps pretty easily. 4k easily, though who knows about 60fps. 8k probably upscaled.

this is just based on the cpu and gpu and what's known about them. the ps4 cpu wasn't super new when it was released, but the ps5 cpu hasn't been released yet and is a solid jump from current amd cpus. gpu will maybe be better than a 2070 slightly, though probably closer to the 2060. and they'll get more out of it since there'll be less overhead.

xbox will probably have very similar specs. they're using the same tech.

I'm glad the os will be snappy. it'll be the best netflix machine ever! :P

The PS5 is confirmed to have an SSD vs the standard 5400RPM harddrive. That's all this is.

Why does everyone just assume when they say it supports 8K, that they mean gaming? Maybe they mean if you have an 8K tv, you can still use your PS5 on it? Or perhaps it will support 8K video playback? They could literally be referring to a handfull of different things.

And this entire "All they did was stick in an SSD!!!!" nonsense needs to stop. Try putting an SSD in your PS4 and see if you get the same loading times on Spider-Man. You won't get even close. I promise.

Rather deceptive to use a PS4 game to demonstrate fast loading on a PS5 when the real question is how fast a PS5 game will load on it.
