I can't even search from 40000000 to 41000000 without running out of RAM on JGecko U, don't know why as with Gecko.NET I could search Wii's mem2 90000000 to 93400000 with no memory issues

Thats odd. i can do a full range from like 30000000-40000000 for example as long as its a 32 bit search and i only have 8GB of RAM. Maybe make sure you have "Aligned" checked. that can save like 4x the amount of RAM usage if you leave it unchecked for no good reason.

8 bit searches take up the most amount of RAM. there's 4x as many things to keep track of compared to a 32 bit scan. Bully Can correct me if im wrong but im guessing each address Value is stored in either a Vector or Array and then on the next search it creates another Vector/array with all of the new values at each address and then it parses through address by address comparing the same Value at each index of the Array to see if they are Equal or not,

soooo that means that 8bit, values pretty much take up the same amount of space as a 32 bit value but since there are 4x more 8 bit values than 32 bit values within the same range (ie: 40000000-41000000) 8bit value searches take up much more space.

buts its all just a theory....

I have a simple question, but i am not sure if it has been answered within the 338 pages. Is it possible to use this method to use codes on virtual console games (ds/wii games)? If so, is it possible to activate ar codes, or are there a set of different codes. I apologize in advance if this has already been answered.

yes you can create codes for VC games, the memory address would be different than any old AR code you find on the net, so afaik those don't work.
I can usually find N64 VC addresses in the E8000000 - EA000000 memory range.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Question: I'm wondering if im doing anything wrong with the following code i've been trying to create.
I'm trying to write a Health value to an address via a pointer, but it freezes the WiiU whenever Health is decreased. I can follow the pointer to the memory address and Poke a new value without issue and even create a code off that values address (though it's dynamic so pointless in the long run) and that code works fine. I've defined the memory range based on the earliest/latest pointer addresses I found. This is using cosmocortney code types.

The pointer is [0x10DD3434] + 0x90
I want to write 600 float (0x4416000)

This is what I have.
30000000 10DD3434
10000000 13000000
31000000 00000090
00120000 44160000
D0000000 DEADCAFE

Should I just try more pointer (and point-inpointer) addresses?
Thanks.

Is it a VC game?

Nah, I havent encountered any dynamic addresses in VC's yet.
I think I'm just gonna fish for some more ptr dumps.

Since you guys are looking into VC RAM stuff, could you please take a quick peek as to know what address is the one which we could change to make N64 VC 16:9 instead of the boxed 4:3?

is there an organized repository somewhere for users to add codes to that's NOT that .tk website that throws all the security errors.
OOh, Maybe CMP has a section on their forum.

And hell yeah, VC Widescreen hacks would be choice.

Also, I ended up finding the proper pointer addy I was searching for, had to include negative offsets. Oops.

I have to agree with you here; that .tk website is rather messy. I've been there myself and never ran into anything like you've described, but that was like... I dunno, one or two years ago, so...

Is there a place that tells what memory addresses belongs to which games. I tried searching for money values in the addresses you provided and unfortunately nothing popped up. It makes me think that the game I am playing has different memory values.

Nothing to do with BotW, but here's a Super Mario Maker code I've found. I know where the Online Mercy Invincibility timers (how long Mario blinks and is immune to damage) are, but I refuse to release this updated info, as the past offsets are now out of date, until I can find a decent pointer. Same thing with a Power-Up/Costume Modifier until I know for sure which values are which and finding a good pointer. Also true with extra lives.

Super Mario Maker [AMAE01] (NTSC-U Region only)
Code:
Coin Modifier (Offline/Online) [TheWord21]
00020000 261BD3EC
000000XX 00000000
D0000000 DEADCAFE

Coins Collected Total Modifier (Offline/Online) [TheWord21]
00020000 261BD3F0
000000XX 00000000
D0000000 DEADCAFE

Score Modifier (Offline/Online) [TheWord21]
00020000 261BD3F4
XXXXXXX 00000000
D0000000 DEADCAFE

Mercy Inviniciblity Timer Modifier (Online) [TheWord21]
30000000 271155AC
10000000 50000000
31000000 FFFFFC3C
30100000 00000000
10000000 50000000
31000000 FFFFFDD4
00120000 XXXXXXXX
D0000000 DEADCAFE
Pointer: [[0x271155AC] - 0x3C4] - 0x22C

Just wanted to start with Mario Maker too, but then I thought "Nah, too lazy now".
Good that you are working on it now. :D

Thanks. By the way, about those source codes for your trainers... is there truly no possible way to recover them or redo them from scratch?

Edit: Never mind, I took a look at your Wind Waker HD.

My Wind Waker HD trainer is closed source on gitlab, (no github) for future stuff.
If you want, I can give you permissions to view the Source.

I see... well, a long while back, you told us that you lost the documents necessary to update your trainers, so I was just curious. And yeah, I wouldn't mind taking a gander.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
