PlatinumGames' latest action game, Astral Chain, has just received an extensive ten-minute trailer. In it, multiple gameplay elements are detailed, showing the combat, how to use special attacks, some of the different Legions you can use and their abilities, as well as the RPG elements which involve you unlocking new combos and raising stats. Players will also be required to investigate clues and solve puzzles in order to progress towards new areas. Astral Chain will launch exclusively on the Nintendo Switch this August 30th.

such a fucking waste this will only be released for the switch to be bottlenecked by its hardware. this looks like game of the year material.

It's kinda awkward when there's subtitles but no actual narration.
Guess they didn't have time to record it.

Looks like they're adapting Nier Automata's gameplay to this game kind of like what they did with that Transformers game using elements from Metal Gear Rising's gameplay.

I mean...yuzu is a thing and I think RyujiNX is still around...

    *crickets intensifies*

...actually, WTF happened to RyujiNX? Did they just decide to merge their efforts behind yuzu or something?

Either way, the fact that a game with this kind of fidelity can be done on the Switch is impressive enough as is, as well as the fact that it's another *gasp* real exclusive that may not get a Steam release down the road.

Hideki Kamiya literally dissed a bunch of people on Twitter for saying the exact same thing about Bayonetta 2. Guess it's starting again.

it's not about whether it can be played on pc. it's whether it has pc graphics or switch graphics. that said yuzu is still young so i'll give it another 8 months or so before i play this on it
    ok so what's your point?

Any game that gets a console release will look like shit compared to PC games that push the limits of the platform. You don't see too many PC exclusives these days, so I would think that we would be used to that by now.

I cannot wait for this one, looks like the best Switch exclusive so far.

Yeah, the exact same complaint (bottlenecked by hardware) could be levied at Spider-Man or God of War. I'm praying that PS5/Scarlett is the generation that 60+ FPS finally becomes the standard for consoles.

..and you get less and less of exclusives because PC players are so damn cheap there's not a lot of worth on investing a series wholefully in them. You want that?

There's a reason there's platform of multiple types existing these days. Please be more educated.

A lot of people are sleeping on this game I think. If astral chain has even half the depth of Nier (and it really does look like more than just an action game), it's an easy GOTY for me.

Yeah, even with what limited information we got about the game before, I wasn't in on the "HURR DURR THIS IS JUST TO PAD OUT NINTENDO DIRECTS." Despite my previous comment about it looking like they used whatever source they already had on hand for Nier: Automata and built upon it for Astral Chain here, it's not like more of the same, but improved and/or with a twist or whatever is a bad thing. I liked Nier: Automata's gameplay (it sure looks a FUCK load more fun than whatever qualified as a hack and slash in Drakengard 1, that's for sure!), and I'm digging whatever's going on here. My only question is that, with Platinum, we know that Bayonetta 3 is being worked on, but how much is this game being focused upon as opposed to the game series that put them on the map? After all, they did take a colossal loss when Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom, cancelled the only non-FPS exclusive that looked interesting in Scalebound and wasn't Killer Instinct 3 and said "fuck exclusives. After all, who needs exclusives when we can port our games to Steam and make the whole point of a console effectively moot?"

Not that I'm complaining on that last part...*coughs* Epic Games Store *coughs*

As for 60 fps becoming standard, with Sony and Microsoft trying to put the cart before the horse with 8K, Raytracing, improvements in HDR, etc. for their next-gen systems, I'm prepared for whatever gains the underclocked Ryzen 2 chips mixed in with whatever the GPU is gonna be to be bottlenecked by the need for the price to not approach the following, if not greater:

If not in this trailer (I don't want to be spoiled on everything, as you can imagine), then they'll probably go into it in a later trailer.

not true at all. Spider-man ps4, uncharted 4, god of war, red dead 2 and i could keep going look incredible and forza horizon still also looks phenomenal on xbox too.
    me too dude
you're the one who needs to be more educated especially if you think that pc doesn't have much worth on investing in. what you're saying is straight up bullshit. you're just attacking with no basis at all.
incredible discovery cuz it definitely cares about your bullshit criticisms.

Troll on, Mr. I-Posted-200+-Messages-And-Still-Don't-Have-A-Profile-Pic. All you're engaging in at this point is e-dick measuring that only those on r/pcmasterrace care about. In a shocking twist of events, once you get that super powerful PC built, you have to maintain it, manage the files, configure everything, and make sure that everything is as smooth of an experience as possible. Yes, PC has much worth investing in, but for your average shopper at Walmart? They couldn't give a shit.

Also, when it comes to video game graphics, at this point, the race to "realism" is honestly tired and played out at this point. When Norman Reedus, even if it's a prerendered cutscene, can be rendered so convincingly that I feel like I'm actually watching an actual shot from a movie/TV show with actors in Death Stranding, you know that the race for "realistic" graphics has hit the point of diminishing returns. We can render worlds in various styles better than before, but goddamn it, I want to see every hair follicle on Kiryu's face in Yakuza Kiwami 2, performance be damned!

Video games are more than just graphics. They're the things you do to pass the limited free time we all have. Just because you have the best hardware doesn't mean everyone is gonna give a shit. It's lonely at the top in the world of regular people with responsibilities to the point where, sometimes, they're asking themselves why they even bought 100+ Steam games and a PC that's overpowered for most of them in the first place and just invest it into more games on a system that they can play at work while on break if they have a substantial break of any kind.

    >"troll on"
    >posts 3 paragraphs that have nothing to do with what i said
all i meant to say is that this game won't look as good as it should be looking because the switch's hardware isn't up to date. i didn't say all that matters is graphics. i didn't say ANYTHING about realism. i said nothing about overpowered pc. i didn't even talk about pcs. chill bruh. graphics are pretty important tho not as important as gameplay or story (for me atleast)
