PlayStation State of Play May 2024 showcase - God of War: Ragnarok coming to PC

The latest State of Play is here. This is PlayStation's Summer showcase, providing updates to new updates on upcoming games and brand new reveals. The 35-minute broadcast features 14 different games, all coming to PS4, PS5, and PC. The following notes are a summary of the event.

Firewalk Studios is first up, with their upcoming game called Concord, announced last year. There's a character-focused trailer, in addiction to an in-engine trailer. It's a multiplayer shooter, 5v5. It'll launch on PS5 and PC on August 23.

God of War Ragnarok is headed to PC. You'll need a PSN account to play, even on Steam. Releases September 19.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins is a new game in the series, and it'll be out on PS5 next year.

The next game is an action RPG where you play a a girl who can turn into a cat. 3D action combat. There's lots of princesses you can play as. Infinity Nikki, releasing on PS5, with a beta test in Q3 2024.

Another action RPG, called Ballard of Antara, is developed by Tipswork Studio, and has soulslike elements. 2025.

Skydance's Behemonth is a brand new PSVR2 game. Developed by Skydance. It's a medieval themed game where you have a grappling hook that you can pull enemies towards you with. There's also a bow and a sword. Fall 2024.

A second VR game. Alien: Rogue Incursion, coming this holiday.

Marvel and Netease team up for an online team-based shooter with all the Marvel superheroes. Called Marvel Rivals, and it'll get a closed beta in July 2024.

Everstone Studio is developing what appears to be a soulslike titled Where Winds Meet, with no scheduled launch window.

PlayStation Studios has an Until Dawn remaster set for PlayStation 5 and PC. This Fall.

Path of Exile 2 gets a gameplay trailer, giving a look at some of the classes. This one has couch co-op and crossplay. Comes out in early access late 2024.

The Silent Hill 2 remake gives us a look at the characters and gameplay. It'll be out October 8th. A more detailed trailer dropped after the State of Play.

Capcom has the stage next. This is Monster Hunter Wilds. There's all sorts of returning creatures shown off. Comes out 2025.

AstroBot is getting a new title on September 6th, with a high-octane trailer featuring a lot of PlayStation series references.

if only they didn't ban so many countries they could've made more than ever
Seems the accountants think they'll make more money by adding the PSN requirement than they'll lose from the nearly 180 countries PSN isn't available in (but Steam is).

Speaking of PSN! Just think, if the rumors are true, and Steam is truly coming to Xbox, you'll have to log into your Xbox account, to log into your Steam account, to log into your PSN account to play your Sony video game. Or you'll have to log into your Xbox account, to log into your Steam account, to log into your Rockstar/Uplay/EA account to play your video game.

That sounds about right honestly.

Oh boy. I feel like the meme about Steam versions of Sony games requiring you to have a physical PlayStation console isn't too farfetched.
On the other hand, I got a feeling that Sony has a pretty obvious business plan:

Step 1 - Release game on Playstation console
Step 2 - Wait until sales are negligible
Step 3 - Release game on Steam for full price with PSN requirement
Step 4 - Wait until sales are negligible
Step 5 - Make a huge announcement out of the fact that you removed PSN requirements by flipping a switch in the code and cash in one last time

Pretty anti-consumer, if you asked me, but from a business perspective the outcome is that they gained PSN members and still sold as many copies as they could in the end. I for one won't buy their Steam ports even after step 5, but mostly because I couldn't give a damn about Helldivers 2 and any games involving daddy Kratos who feels like grandpa Kratos gameplay-wise.

having psn linking to a single player game on pc is the most dumbest thing ever like what is the point? this isn't gonna help them/more people buy a ps5. there's also the issue of about 100+ countries not being able to buy it on steam.

then again this is sony we are talking about, making annoying stupid decision one after another
Sony gets more user data to sell, and they get to claim a higher-than-actual active user count on PSN.

Has anyone tried using one of those basic steam client DRM crackers with a Sony PSN required title (I don't know if they're still a thing)? Asking because I'm curious if this is also some kind of rudimentary DRM.

since there is WAY too many comments to make a multi quote reply to, and unless people have notifs turned off, everyone here should see this post:

here's the reasoning behind sony's soon-to-be ceo for being stupid with psn on pc:

sony is planning to bring live service games and free to play games to ps5 and pc day 1. but they are locking single player games to ps5 in order to "encourage" pc gamers, xbox gamers, and nintendo gamers to buy a ps5 to play their games.

posted this before sums it up nicely here too
They have this arrogant tunnel vision where they think their brand is enough for people to drop their shit and go with Sony.

this is why a fucking tablet is beating you sony!

see the psn linking thing wouldn't do anything to pc players. they're gonna keep continuing to make timed exclusive on the ps5. not sure if this is gonna hurt singleplayer games sales once it comes on pc

UP YOURS, SONY. Bloody hell - this is a singleplayer game, so why the forced PSN? Didn't they get enough flak from Helldivers?
Idiots.

So a literal catgirl. Greeeat.

Does anyone still care about VR? Last I heard, VR headset sales were on the decline.

So an Overwatch clone...made by Netease. Again, greeeat - oh, and of course this is 'modern' Marvel, the one that has attempted to replace long-running, fan-favourite heroes in the MCU with new, diversity-and-inclusion-mandated heroines and stuff.
Also Marvel's Avengers was a massive flop. Doubt this'll be any better.

Yeah...I don't care. There's no reason for me to buy a PS5, even now, let alone for me to join the PSN. Ugh.
Totally agree as a Helldiver

The amount of crying and whining in the comments is hilarious.

Not going to comment on all of them, but this one stands out above the rest.

First off "Posted this before but..." Gee, why am I not surprised? Secondly, there's also a reason why Sony is annihilating MS in the console scene. Why don't you mention those reasons? You're purposefully omitting pertinant information to paint a false narrative of how shitty Sony is.

I thought like this before, but now I am starting to believe that Microsoft just stealthily abandoned the sinking console ship like the rat it is, meanwhile Sony is sinking with it like the captain of the Titanic.

And yeah, perhaps Nintendo was able to catch an inflatable lifeboat, but not sure if it will survive out there on the cold seas.

Thank god the Aliens VR game is looking to be survival/action horror. I was worried we were going to get a straight up action game.

Please bring Bloodborne to pc and then we can all chuck our PS5s out the window
'We heard you hate us after making Helldivers 2 and Ghost of Tsushima on PC PSN linking required so we brought you a mediocre showcase with another first party game coming to PC that ALSO needed PSN Linking!"
And that's likely how Sony will move forward in the future for all their PC releases, always PSN enabled on day 1

I vote for $0ny trying to slow down piracy with these stupid moves...

I hope someone hacks the game right off the bat to bypass the psn requirement to play this on a pc...
