Rumor: Further reports claim that a new Switch model will launch in 2020

gear_switch-lite.jpg

We're only a few days into the New Year, and now that the holiday season and Nintendo Switch Lite launch window is over, news outlets are back to claiming that the release of yet another Nintendo Switch hardware revision is imminent. This time, it's not just the Wall Street Journal, but also a Taiwanese news site called Digitimes, who are claiming that a new Switch model will be out by mid-2020. These claims come from sources within the related hardware industry, who state that Nintendo will be ramping up production for a new Switch sometime before the end of Q1 2020. From there, this theorized Switch would release around the middle of this year, and would feature a new CPU.

Nintendo launched Switch Lite with friendlier pricing in late September and signifcant increaes in its overall Swtich console sales in the three-month period ended September 30, 2019. Now the Japanese vendor is reportedly planning to launch a new Switch model in mid-2020, qwith volume production for the new device beginning in first-quarter of this year. In China, chipmakers have been keen on developing high-performance AI chips and high-end CPUs, which will prompt suppliers to expand their ABF substrate production capacity to meet their needs. In Taiwan, startup team BeVi, is ready to showcase at CES 2020 its CarePLUS, a 360-degree AI-based environment recognition system for eldercare.

Nintendo new Switch to enter mass production in 1Q20: Nintendo is reportedly planning to release in mid-2020 a new model of Switch, which will begin volume production at the end of first-quarter 2020, according to sources from the related upstream supply chain.

These claims should always be taken with a grain of salt, but it does pose a question: With PlayStation and Xbox poised to release their powerful next-generation hardware for the holiday 2020 season, will Nintendo follow suit, in a bid to extend the Nintendo Switch's lifecycle with a more powerful system? We're already seen them do a hardware refresh with the new red box Nintendo Switch, and the Switch Lite. What do you think about this longstanding rumor?

Not buying another Switch until I see a model with significantly improved specs - the Lite just wasn't for me and an improvement in TDP/battery life is not enough to convince me to switch (ha!) from my Day 1 daily driver to a new console. If it is a Switch Pro of some kind, it will be a perfect secondary system, but other than that my 2020 wishlist is still dominated by the PS5 and the Series X.

Yeah, a half an hour of play time more wasn't doing it for me either. I did trade in my PS4 Slim that I wasn't playing at the time for the Red Switch...to use as my clean Switch because I probably couldn't solder for shit to hack it!

That's been the Switch's primary appeal from the beginning, at least for me. Definitely willing to trade up if it means more power and better battery life, but I agree that improved battery life on its own wasn't a big enough selling point to bother with the red box model.

You kno the rules are you are with Sony or microsoft:lol:
I'm console-agnostic, although not through choice. I gotta have my Halo, I gotta have my Uncharted and The Last of Us and I gotta have my Fire Emblem and Metroid, but since the Holy Book of Console Wars dictates that good hardware doesn't matter as long as everyone rolls out anti-consumer exclusives, I can't have it all in one convenient package. On the bright side I collect the damn things anyway, so I suppose it doesn't really matter in the long run. :P

I think they gonna do sth like Wii U with external controller using current Switch. Maybe for now they cannibalises old tittles from Wii U grave not spend money for new console - if true I am not really fan of the idea, since most of their tittles I play last gen. But also if next year i look for next gen upgrade I rather by from M$ or $ony not Nintendo. Hmm... One thing interests me about N, if their drveloping new box do they try make VR set that contain materials that we cound not find as replacement in our dumpster!?

Im glad I didn't jump the gun to buy current new models. Im guessing the 2020 models will be around when PS5/and X Series are out

I am curious to see this new version of switch. Hopefully, they will improve the original model more seriously this time.
I expect more power, less bezel, higher resolution, and less bulky. A switch model decent compared to the forthcoming generation.

Pro edition console would be nice to get modern framerates in some games

But honestly what I really want is an actual portable switch - one that can go in my pocket. The switch lite's form factor is almost the same as the first iteration

"Portable" yeah I guess
Any thing is portable if you set your mind to it

I've got a hard time imagining a simple hardware update. That's not Nintendo like and the New 3DS upgrade proved to be almost useless (only 3 games using it).

If there is a Switch Pro, I think it will improve one (or several) of the features. Like au better screen or those foldable joy cons we've seen a few mounths ago.

I can see a XL model as stupid as it might seem. A tablet the size of an I Pad would find it's public whatever gamers can think about that. Or maybe a lighter model with borderless screen.

Nintendo has to do it. The Ps5 and Xsex box will be rough competition.
Nintendo don't really compete with Sony or Microsoft - most people will buy the next nintendo machine as we all kno just for ther first party with either playstn or xbox - they've prob lost some sales but not enough to just go just producing games
