Sweet, a release I can use!
Will be useful for access to GW Launcher for backing up retail cartridges.
So I figured out what the "Mode" setting does. When set to "Classic Sysnand" it allows retail carts to be loaded, and when set to "Gateway" it loads ROMs from the Gateway cart. Also, signature checks are disabled in classic mode, so everyone can dump their retail saves without using CFW
But I can't seem to set it to Classic 7.x - or Classic 7.x +, maybe these options are just placeholders right now as when I back out of the menu and go back in it's set to Classic Sysnand.
I think this refers to save crypto. Classic 7.x- meaning you'd be playing retail cartridges that had been saved using the old save crypto (like if you had been playing games in GW Classic mode and wanted to retain compatibility for your saves.)
While Classic 7.x+ uses the newer 6.0 save encryption so that you can play games that had been saved using the new encryption.
Only really applies to games that required 6.x or higher, such as (but not limited to) Pokémon. Remember when people were playing their genuine cartridges on their 3DS that was on 4.5 sysnand with a higher emunand and their save files were being read as corrupted on other 3DSes?
Most games that used the newer encryption when it came out could still be played and saved normally using the older encryption. But then the saves are only readable if your system is using the old encryption. This is what Classic 7.x- is for, so you don't lose access to those save files.
I cannot test this myself but it might be possible to use SaveDataFiler in Classic 7.x- to export save file, then re-import it in Classic 7.x+ to "convert" the save to the newer encryption.
Gateway does all the work, cfw steals the work later on.
Ye, except we've already got people unrelated to GW who started working on it already before GW even released anything.
For all we know the free solution might become available before GW even releases this.
funny how gateway uses other peoples stuff to heighten their products but when its the other way around...
They're not using anyone else's stuff. Sure they'll be exploiting the vulnerabilities that have been revealed. But they're coding everything on their own.
Much different from SC directly using GW's Launcher instead of making their own and trying to pass their DSTwo+ off as a GW red card.
Should I bother with this? I already have ctrbootmanager and rxTools, and my GW is just sitting there on the stool doing absolutely nothing.
I'll take it
