Sony is once more attempting to reintroduce players to their older library of games by re-releasing classic PlayStation 2 titles onto the PlayStation Store. During the PlayStation 4's run, there were a handful of PS2 classics made available, however, those games were criticized for running poorly, with inaccurate emulation on the PS4. Now, Sony has reportedly created a new emulator for PS2, and according to industry leakers, will offer video filters, quick save, and a rewind feature.

The first three titles will be Sly Cooper and the Thievus Reccoonus, Tomb Raider: Legend, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and are set to launch on June 11, for PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers. You'll also be able to purchase the titles separately for both PS4 and PS5 if you don't have PlayStation Plus.

Hacked PS4s can play plenty of PS2 games with the homebrew tools so why can't Sony do it, too?

I remember playing Burnout Revenge PS2-to-PS4 and it was awesome, it honestly looked like a HD Remaster and I had a blast playing it.

Revenge vs Paradise? I definitely enjoyed Revenge way more whereas Paradise is a bit monotonous after a while.

Tekken Tag PS2 on a PS4 Slim was a bit laggy, but worked smoothly on a PS4 Pro.

However, when it comes to Tekken Tag, why isn't there a modern port of the PS3 HD Remaster? That's just something that ain't right.



Tekken Tag 1 in HD looks like Tekken 3 with a tag mode and in HD.

Yes, they need to update the existing PS2 library to the new emulator, but I'm not holding my breath.

Ape Escape 2 and Okage are practically unplayable on PS5 and Star Ocean 3 has always had an egregious freezing problem. I'm sure there are more titles with other terrible problems too.

Going back to PS2 days, imagine Capcom forgetting about Onimusha series. At least have the decency to re-release somehow PS2 versions of Onimusha 2 and Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams.

I have purchased a few hard-to-find PS1 games on PSN. I always appreciated that PSN purchases carried over to the PS3, but I don't know if that continued to the PS4. If the emulation is poor and people have to purchase the same games again, then that would definitely be the Nintendo MO.

I thought the lack of an account system on the Wii was absolutely insane. Then, we started getting stories of customers losing games due to hardware failure or Wii to Wii U transfer issues. Sony used to be ahead of the game starting with backwards compatibility on the PS2, but the industry's much more forward-focused these days.
