"The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog" releases for free on Steam

SEGA is showing everybody up for April Fool's Day 2023 by not only releasing an ambitious, impressive product, but doing it a day early. Earlier today, SEGA released The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, a visual novel-style point-and-click adventure game. Drawing inspiration from Murder on the Orient Express, it places Sonic's supporting staff on a train (in period-appropriate attire), creating a locked room mystery when Sonic turns up dead. You play as a new character who teams up with detective Tails to interrogate everyone onboard and solve Sonic's murder.

There's more depth here than one might expect from an April Fool's joke. The game takes a little over an hour to complete, and while there isn't any challenge to the puzzles or brief platforming sections, the script, music and art direction show that this was clearly a labour of love. It may not be worth the time for anyone not invested in Sonic as a franchise, but there are some cute moments here for anyone already invested and there's a lot of fun to seeing them transplanted into a new setting and genre like this.

The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog is available on Steam now.

I'm pretty sure they already released The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog already:

Hey Chary who is the female character in your signature? Not the guy from Danganronpa 3 ofc but the other one.

It's time for you to look inward and begin asking yourself the big questions. Does this mean that we are officially acknowledging Chicken Kender's light mobius arc, will he whine about it online? (knuckles wearing a hat = grounds to sue)

i love how you can't name the MC "among us", "monokuma", or "phoenix wright"
You can't even name it "phoe". Probably not even "pho". I just kept removing letters from "phoenix wright" until it actually let me keep the name. I skipped from "phoe" to "ph" which is when it finally worked. Seems rather strange. What if my name is phoebe and I want to name myself "phoe"? Idfk, weird filter which shouldn't be so strict that it prevents the use of a 3 or 4 letter segment of one of the names.

You're actually defending Sega on only doing Sonic games than the wealth of franchises they have? You do you, I guess.

Sega could have ported their amazing arcade games to Consoles/PC, but who'd want to play that? Just give them more Sonic! 🧟

The free game is made by their social media team, it's essentially a fan game you muppet xD

@SylverReZ, I dislike the kind of drm where you have to play single player games online all the time bc of some verification bs

@Xdqwerty, Don't use games that have Easy Anti-Cheat as its been exploited many times.

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.

Either that or their old games were unfinished aswell but we can't notice it

I like that games can be fixed after the fact, hate that it's being abused via beta tests... And DLC... I was a 7800 owner back in the day and loved Impossible Mission, turns out I couldn't beat it because it was actually impossible lol

I never knew about it at the time but a fixed version was available but you had to mail in your broken copy lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
So that version is semi rare
