Sony's new remote-play only device finally has a name and a price. The streaming only device is officially called the PlayStation Portal remote player and will launch later this year for $199.99 USD (219.99 EURO / 199.99 GBP / 29,980 YEN).

The handheld sports an 8inch LCD screen capable of playing games remotely at up to 1080p60. The device includes all features from the PlayStation 5 DualSense such as adaptive triggers and haptic feedback.

PlayStation Portal remote player brings the PS5 experience to the palm of your hand. It includes the key features of the DualSense wireless controller, including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback*. The vibrant 8-inch LCD screen is capable of 1080p resolution at 60fps, providing a high definition visual experience that's expected from the high quality games created by world-class developers.

PlayStation Portal is the perfect device for gamers in households where they might need to share their living room TV or simply want to play PS5 games in another room of the house. PlayStation Portal will connect remotely to your PS5 over Wi-Fi**, so you'll be able to swiftly jump from playing on your PS5 to your PlayStation Portal. PlayStation Portal can play supported games that are installed on your PS5 console and use the Dualsense controller. It also includes a 3.5mm audio jack for wired audio. PS VR2 games, which require the headset, and games that are streamed through PlayStation Plus Premium's cloud streaming, are not supported.

Pre-orders for the device will go live later this year.

Sony have also announced a new Pulse Elite headset priced at 149.99 USD (149.99 EURO, 129.99 GBP, 18,980 YEN) that offers lossless audio, retractable boom mic and built in an AI noise cancelling feature.

It even says on the product page that it's useless without a PS5 so people that don't have a PS5 are either:
A) Try to scalp it.
B) Uninformed thinking it's a new PlayStation handheld like PSP/Vita.

C) They search for "PlayStation 5", see the picture with the PS5 and the portal then don't bother reading the description. They just think they're getting a PS5 with a wireless controller for £200.

I work retail and this happens surprisingly often, including the Xbone One S All Digital, I had to start telling people that it didn't come with a disc drive when serving them.

They even made the DualSense incompatible with PS4 so that's wishful thinking. Sony can be assholes when they want.

Good thing the Chinese made DualSense lookalike controllers and they're really good!

So long, Micro USB!

The limitations seem to be software based, which can be changed. It still falls within the same spectrum of their control. I think we both see that the limitations are superficial and can be changed with a flip of a switch.

who wrote that fucking description it's terrible it doesn't even mention you need a ps5! i can see a lot of people doing returns!

"Play your PS5 console over your home Wi-Fi with console quality controls using PlayStation Portal Remote Player"

The first bullet point.

isn't it funny they release this useless thing right after jacking the price of ps+ up which it won't work without

"No, using PlayStation Portal™ Remote Player and PlayStation® Remote Play does not require a PlayStation Plus membership. If you are using Remote Play to play a game that requires a PS Plus membership to access multiplayer, then you would need to have an active membership to access that game’s multiplayer features."

https://www.playstation.com/en-us/accessories/playstation-portal-remote-player/

How do you survive yourself?

Ha ha ha ha, no

It's been discussed already but you need a PS5 to use it.

Precisely.

It even says it on PlayStation's very own website, right friggin' here:

https://direct.playstation.com/en-us/buy-accessories/playstation-portal-remote-player

They had to state the same thing twice? Some people still won't figure it out. lol

The new Wii U:

I said it before and will say it everytime: Sunny is such a disgusting copycat. Since the very first playstation it has copied ideas, concepts and intelectual property.

Waiting for xbox turn on this one...

Anyone going to comment on lag redundancy compounded by the suggestion of playing online multiplayer on a streaming game? The fact that there doesn’t seem to be a disclaimer about that seems to be pretty interesting.
