As to my knowledge, the Wii has no volume settings, but individual games may have them. There's your display's volume control, though.Any way to limit the Wii's volume output?

Just got a used Wii. Firmware version is 4.3U. When I connected it to my wifi it said there was a system update, but I didn't apply it for fear of breaking the ability to mod it.
I tried running Letterbomb following the instructions exactly, with 3 different SD cards. It gets to the "scam warning" screen on all three, but never prompts me to press 1 to continue.
A few other things:
1. I am using a regular Wiimote (no motion plus)
2. All my SD cards are SDHC (4GB, 4GB micro with adapter, 16GB), but as I understand it, Letterbomb should still work with those.
3. I do not have the internet channel on my Wii. If I go to the shop channel it says I can't access it until I run a system update.
4. I have no idea if the Wii was modded by a previous owner. But there are no channels other than the default ones (weather, shop, etc).
What should I do? Is there some trick to making the Letterbomb exploit work? Is it safe to update my firmware?
I'm at work right now but this evening I'm going to try two things. First, I just realized there was a game disc in the Wii this whole time, so I'm going to eject it before trying again. No idea if that makes a difference but it's worth a shot. Second, I'm going to move the Wii to a part of my house with better wifi reception and try again. I will also consider trying the str2hax hack and if nothing else works, I guess I'll have to try running the system update again. It looks like the shop channel won't be gone until a few more months from now so I still have a chance to download the browser and run a browser-based exploit, but only after I've run a system update.
hey,
Im rather stuck with modding my wii. I have a usb with 5 games on it (all .wbfs on a FAT32 using WiiJ manager), and I spent all day yesterday figuring out and hacking the Wii. The games appear on my GX loader, but as soon as i click start for the game, instead of starting the game it returns me to the HBC home screen. This is currently where I stand and all I have:
1. Got HBC on my Wii (4.3U)
2. added GX loader
3. added d2x cIOS installer
- v10 beta 52
- base 37, slot 250 (I have tried 56 and 57, no luck, I read for beta 52 it should be slot 37)
So close, yet seems so far away.....could it be the wrong slot for the installer? or could it just be the games?
I'm in the same situation as you. I can't get past the "scam" screen. I formated my SDHC card to only 2GB and I'm still stuck at the same screen. I tried doing an Wii update like you tried, but I'm stuck at testing connectionJust got a used Wii. Firmware version is 4.3U. TLDR: Try running modmii's hackmii solutions wizard, for real it might fix this issue
...
I think maybe installing a clean IOS58 (the top IOS prioritized by the hackmii installer) might fix the issue. Whatever IOS is being used to run the installer is getting hung up somewhere somehow, it could be a patched IOS from some legacy cioscorp garbage hacks. So modmii will save a boot.elf for mmm to the root of the SD card instead of the hackmii installer so that it will be launched by letterbomb (or "wilbrand" which is basically the same thing by @giantpune, mad respect). This will allow you to install a clean IOS58 even if the wii is a total virgin (you can install officially signed Nintendo IOSs so long as they aren't fakesigned or a lower version number than what's currently installed). After doing that you can even use mmm's app launcher to load the hackmii installer so u don't need to move files on the SD card using a PC before using banner bomb again.
It is safe to start modmii's guide from the beginning
No point in updating u don't get anything extra out of it. An update will just remove some of your mods and force u to repeat the steps using ModMii. If seeing 4.3 in the settings menu gives u warm and fuzzies inside then u can update to 4.3 using ModMii, or update officially from Nintendo then rehack your wii using ModMii again (main wizard again or u can use modmii's syscheck updater wizard)
