DO NOT download or install IOS36
This is an official IOS, DO NOT TRY TO DOWNGRADE IT to a random version you found in a tutorial, you will brick your Wii.
Keep IOS as they are, never touch IOS bellow slot 200.

To install DIOS MIOS, you need .... nothing special ;)
use a WAD Manager compatible with AHBPROT support and you will never need to bother with which IOS to use.

Use a wad manager, select the DIOS MIOS wad file, and it will install it. that's all. Do not follow the first guide you encounter, do few research, see if other guides explain the same thing, see if there are newer method, newer files, etc.

Multi Mod Manager, Wii Mod, YAWMM, etc.

Isn't it AHBPROT not HABPROT??

I have a wii, luigi's mansion PAL version and the homebrew channel.

How can I use gamecube Action Replay codes (uncommon ones, i.e. not in databases) with my disc, can I just run gamecube homebrew, or some sort of way of running it out of gamecube mode?

it's a typo :P
it's AHB you are right

The Wii doesn't use Action replay code style, but Ocarina code style.
You need to convert the Action replay to Ocarina, and then use your favorite GameCube loader to enable the cheat code using the Ocarina code.

You might need to dump your disc to ISO and launch the game with a backup launcher to allow Ocarina codes.

you can find a converter and a quick guide here :

Not sure if this is where I should be asking this but I bought a wii today after finding one for a decent price. I've softmodded the wii already and I've been able to play a few backup games. I want to play Mario Galaxy 2 using neogamma, the game loads fine but after a minute or so I get a message saying that the disc could not be read and it freezes. Any one know the cause of this or a work around? I can provide more information if needed. It would be great to sort this out so I can stop borrowing games from my sister and restricting what she can play...

are you playing from disc or from ISO/external HDD?
if it's from disc, you should try loaders with SD or USB support.

If it's already from a backup ISO, it's maybe an anti-piracy check (but I don't remember any check on Mario Galaxy 2).

Neogamma is a little old, you can try different loaders too.

Just tried Skyward Sword and get the same issue. Might be the cheap DVDs but a few other gamed worked so its kinda strange. I'll try a new launcher, won't be able to try USB until next week when I get a new drive.

Which of those loaders support DVD? They all just seem to use SD/USB

Ok, i asked here last night and that help didn't work, I have a softmodded wii 4.3u with homebrew installed, bootmii as an ios, priloader, and i have suitable drives, I can no longer play actual gc disks, i just want to play some damn wind waker. i have the ios for it from clean rip and i ran that thru the correct programs. i know i need diosmios, and i have downloaded diosmios10, and i have tried to install it thru my sd card and MMM to load games from the usb. when im in mmm and try to install the wad file for diosmios all it says is, ((1) operation not complete), I dont know why it wont work, and I'm tempted to try to unhack it even at the risk of bricking just for the windwaker and super mario sunshine. Any help is greatly appreciated.

First up, is there anyway to know which hard-drives will work with DIOS MIOS?
Secondly, I just bought a new WD Elements HD and when I try to run DIOS MIOS it just shows the DIOS MIOS logo and then goes to a black screen. Is there anything I can do to make DIOS MIOS work?
Any help is gladly accepted.
Is this the right to place to ask for help? If not, please direct to me where I should be posting, thankies.

Harx if it shows the DiosMios splash screen your HDD should be compatible. It might be something with your settings or a bad disk image or something. Also, make sure the game's on the first/only partition on the drive (usb1) and that that partition is formatted to fat32 with 32k or smaller clusters.

if you have dios mios installed you won't be able to play actual retail disks unless you have your USB drive connected.

The most sure way to run a normal retail disk is to have a clean MIOS v10 and BC v6 installed. Once you have the WAD files you can install them with YAWMM, telling it to use IOS249 or IOS236 to install or the WAD manager option in MMM. All of that you can get through ModMii for Windows.

I just tried to install USB Loader GX but it didn't work and now whenever I try to access the HBC my wii black screens...

Any ideas?

Should I uninstall the HBC and BootMii and then reinstall them?

^ Just tried this and I get the same issue...

Should I format my Wii and SD card so I can start again?

I have 2 Questions:

- When using CleanRip, my original Wii freezes to crash dump screen when it tries to download the dat files. Anything I can do?
- When using Devolution, it is unable to mount my USB HDD when I press "A", it says "Failed to Mount Drive". Is it because I don't have a Y-USB splitter?

Please help if possible...

I just tried to install *random homebrew name*
How do you "install" homebrew?
There's no installation process, it's only a file copied on your SD card.
If placing the file on SD card prevent the Homebrew channel to work, delete the folder you created on your SD card and try again.

If for you "installing" means "adding a channel on the system menu of the Wii" then it's not the best way to try a new homebrew. Less you install files in your wii's memory, the better it is to prevent problems.

1. download the file manually, and place it on your SD card. or tell CleanRip to not download the file at all, it will skip the checking process.
2. If you are on WiiU, yes, most probably. On Wii, it can be the cause too but the Wii has more power provided by the USB ports. Does the drive works fine with other homebrew? if it does then it's not the Y-cable.

My HDD is a WD My Passport 1.5TB. It is detected through the HBC, and WiiXplorer programs, but unable to mount it when trying Devolution... Have not tried it on my Wii U yet since I need disc authentication on original Wii...

Although, I did get a Stack Dump crash when trying to switch from SD to the HDD in HBC. USB HDD drive format is NTFS...

I must have made a noob mistake and I tried to open the homebrew app using the wad manager by accident. Now nothing mod related works, it just opens and black screens. Should I format the wii and remod it? How can I get stuff working again?

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
