I created an account just to say that "jailbreak" is a term used for more than just iOS devices, its a term used by computer enthusiasts that means "to exploit a device to remove manufacturer limitations and restrictions." Its used more for Apple products only because its more common to jailbreak a very tightly closed device such as iPhones while other devices are already quite open-source.

Also to stay on topic, Smash Stack is one of the easiest ones to do and more common since most Wii/Wii U owners have this video game.

nothing against this post, but wikipidia is an open ended argument. you can't believe everything that's put in there because so many people have diff opinions and can edit it.
but I will take this quote and use it anyway.

"In the case of gaming consoles, jailbreaking is often used to execute homebrew games"

but either way, idc. just stating my thoughts.

Sorry to write "jailbreak".
I already did this and playing wii games on Wiiu.

People make mistakes but that's no reason to beat yourself up about its human nature =) .

really i'm a " computer enthusiast" (certified in many areas of pc knowledge, and programing) and i don't use that term. so far i've only seen people that enjoy watchign tutorials on how to click the ok button on a script to do the most simple of tasks use the term "jailbreak" for hacking, cracking, unlocking, rooting, exploiting, decrypting, and (you'll laugh at this) gaining admin rights to Microsoft devices and apple devices.

lastly on topic, smash stack is as i do agree with spymoft a common exploit for running unsigned code and installing the homebrew channel on the wii and wiiu. (just make sure you follow instructions on how to do it properly.)

Just to clarify, the term "Jailbreak" is a term coined by geohot, and was intended to be the name of HIS exploits, which entail Apple and Sony, anything not developed by geohot is not considered a jailbreak. The more you know!

To answer the original question: Yes. As far as I know, there is no version of vWii that cannot be hacked.

As for arguing over terminology, I always thought you jailbreak Apple and Sony products, root Android devices, and just plain hack or mod most others.

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.

I like that games can be fixed after the fact, hate that it's being abused via beta tests... And DLC... I was a 7800 owner back in the day and loved Impossible Mission, turns out I couldn't beat it because it was actually impossible lol

I never knew about it at the time but a fixed version was available but you had to mail in your broken copy lol

So that version is semi rare
