Everything depends on it's community, obviously we "hack" nintendo products, while if you're in a sony or apple community you "jailbreak". even though the ps3 uses a linux based OS and we "root" androids.

But if Geohot ever made a hack for Nintendo or Microsoft, those too would be most likely named "Jailbreak" by him, since thats what he seems to name his hacks, that term is all about him. Android systems get rooted, because thats what it is, you are gaining root access to the OS, and only a hack would pertain to the certain device manufacturers, not to the linux system, so Android OS will always be obtaining root, but any device manufacturer could require a new hack to even get permissions to even try to obtain root.

This is why certain exploits are usually named, not just for the credit, but to simplify things in certain scenarios . Example, JuopunutBear has hacked certain HTC devices to achieve S-Off, which has nothing to deal with Androids Linux based OS, it has to deal with hacking the HTC devices in itself to eventually get control, other devices will have their own hacks. Android itself will always remain the same, thats the OS, it is the same across all platforms, so rooting will always be rooting.
