Maybe it's already asked (if it is, sorry).
Can you have, on SX, a 6.2 sysnand (to play recent games, ect) and a 6.1 emunand (to play homebrew and xci) ?

Yes, but if you updated sysnand in the official way (so burning fuses) you will not be able to go into sleep mode in your Emunand

Glad I'm on 5.1.0 never updating again, became obsolete once I found out you don't have to update to play higher firmware games. Was annoyed as I had updated from 4.1.0 to 5.1.0 but even hearing 4.1.0 likely won't get anything special from booting into RCM anytime soon guess this is how it is. My consoles done fine in sleep mode for months anyways.

As long as none of this affects Smash Bros working on my current firmware then there's never a reason for me to update. I always worry that they'll change something that would break the game on older firmwares, but as of so far they haven't from what it seems.

Advice please - my Switch auto downloaded 6.2 in the background. It now says, that it's 'ready to install' (but hasn't yet) My NS atmosphere arrived today. I'm not sure if I can still go ahead with CFW or am i consigned to 6.2 now?

Boot into maintenance mode by holding volume + and - when turning the console on. This will automatically clear the pending system update.

Hi guys. I have 2 Switches: One with FW 5.1.0 and is in Airplane Mode with no Internet connection, other Switch is sitting on FW 6.1 I think. Anyway, I just checked my higher FW Switch and not only do you need to update to use eShop now, but you also need to update to even check online time to see if new/upcoming games can be played. Frankly, this really sucks... :(

How do you bypass having to update? I couldn’t get Civ VI to work on 6.0.1 and ended up updating to 6.1.

Where did you get the idea that you don't have to update to play higher firmware games? If the games require a higher fw that has new master keys, then this cannot be bypassed.

Exactly, and because we don't have 6.2 keys we can't actually bypass update. He is thinking about Tinfoil bypass but it's relying on master keys from required software and we simply don't have it for 6.2.

I never fiddled with the Tinfoil bypass but it was in my understanding that you can only bypass fw updates for firmwares that use the same masterkeys - as if you were to play a 6.1 game on 6.0.1 for example - but you couldn't play a 6.0 game on 5.1 - or do I have this wrong?

So does 6.2 essentially end eShop pirating since you can’t go to the eShop on 6.1 and you can’t dump on 6.2?

We can still dump 6.2 carts when they release, but there's no way to run them at the moment it seems. I think it's possible to dump new eshop releases using FG payloads or whatever, but if they require new keys, it's the same problem.

I'm not sure but I think tinfoil is updated with keys from other softwares to decrypt it and install them on any firmware but it doesn't guarantee to actually boot the game because it depends if game is looking for some higher firmware features or not.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
