I can tell by the file size that it didn't work :P
I haven't been able to follow this thread as tightly as I was before. I've been busy harassing the Ace3DS team instead.
I can only do so much harassing.

Ok, so does that mean a non-B9S card can be flashed with ntrboot now? And is it reversible without having CFW beforehand?
The non-B9S cards have to have the B9S card's backup flashed to them. I don't know if it's reversible without CFW though, it would depend on if there's a version of NTRBoot flasher that can work on stock systems.

I personally wouldn't buy from r4i-sdhc their cards always have a "time bomb" where they expire after a period of time with their DS mode flashcards which seems too sketchy imo it just turns me off from even bothering to buy from them again i wouldn't even be surprised if this new card also has some type of time bomb as well.

There are a couple different versions of the flasher in the thread. There's one with a post specifying it ignored checking for a matchig NOR. Try using that one if you haven't already.
I am finding like 3 different results in 2 different threads, please help me out here and quote the right post(s)

I think my cart is the issue.
I restored the backup from this thread and said that it "Restored successfully." But dumping a new backup after restoring the previous one only resulted in a backup made up of "FF"

I've got the R4i 3DS WiFi RTS (not the R4i B9S) but I've restored mine back and fourth a couple of times now, just to keep things simple I made a zip (preserving paths) containing three versions of the restore procedure:
  • Restoring to/as R4i 3DS WiFi RTS (my backup.bin and @AngelSL ntrboot_flasher with additional nor sanity checks removed if your nor is trashed/bricked)
  • Restoring to/as R4i B9S in nds mode (@pandavova nds backup.bin and @AngelSL ntrboot_flasher with additional nor sanity checks removed if your nor is trashed/bricked)
  • Restoring to/as R4i B9S in ntrboot mode (@pandavova ntrboot backup.bin and @AngelSL ntrboot_flasher with additional nor sanity checks removed if your nor is trashed/bricked)

I don't know how to make it any easier :(

One gotcha here is that (at least for me) there are only 7 chunks restored, and when restored to/as R4i B9S ntrboot the cart is not registering as inserted if your device is booted "normally", but loads up as it should using sleep/magnet. When restored as R4i 3DS WiFi RTS or R4i B9S nds it should register (at least for me) as Bomberman*

The zip is larger than 2mb so I couldn't upload it, here is a link

Yeah my cart looks like the issue. I restored those and got backups with "FF" again.
My cart is the "NDS" version of the cart, although it is using the Bomberman header

Which cart, exactly, do you have? R4i ...?

That is something older I guess... if someone having the same cart (stock) could dump their flash (using the ntrboot_flasher builds from this thread) then you could try restoring that instead?

Unless there are some other differencies between that cart and the R4i B9S/R4i 3DS WiFi RTS? Perhaps @Kitlith et. al. knows more about that?

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
