  • One take that I hate when it comes to electronics is the assumption that lightweight means cheap and "plasticky".

What is considered to be acceptable ("in", "hip", "good") depends on marketing and the behavior of the manipulated majority. Facts don't mean much in this regard (else the unusable mini-phones wouldn't have been widespread).
I don't see the point in shaving off a few gram weight and a millimeter thickness looking at all the compromises.

And stop stepping on it! We won't get any new ones.:whip: ←Meant as a joke.

The main misconception that people make is that lightness is a bad thing for electronics. But due to Newton's 3rd law, the extra weight of a "well made" device becomes its worst enemy once dropped on a hard floor.

Same for huge, heavy cars. They can take more force and win against a small car. When running into a wall, the extra weight eats up the heavy construction

Designing electronics as "can take abuse" is hard. Many attack vectors. Heavy things need shock absorbing portions to not kill themselves when dropped. Very light constructions not; they are more vulnerable against bending, piercing or dropping things onto them.

I think any closed source homebrew distributed on this site should have a big red warning next to the download or link.

"Still people use Windows, iOS, Android phones with locked bootloaders and unavailable kernel/driver sources… everyday for ..."
If any of these binaries were theoretically distributed on temp without source, then I would advocate that they receive the same warning treatment too, just to be consistent and fair.

Unless everyone builds from source themselves (which almost nobody will do) the risk is about the same whether it's closed source or not. As the dev can easily remove the malicious bits from the source code they release.
If I'm worried that something is malicious, I'll prefer to build it from source myself, after looking over the source. But you can't expect most people to do that.

I'll voulnteer for being the first to put a highly visible warning before the download link, reading

    "Proprietary notice"

    """
This program is not free and open source, so community members have difficulty monitoring it for misconduct, or for potential malware.

Only download homebrew from developers you trust.

Youtube has really been pushing 1995's "Hackers" film in my suggestions panel lately. I don't even watch hacker videos, seriously.

Tfw using File Explorer to delete 100s of files, then it forgets what to do when it's finished (it just sits there with "0 files left").

I'm saying this mainly due to a "new" mainline pokemon game appearing and it uses Unity, thus making it "easy to mod".
A lot of janky trash romhacks incoming very soon methinks :3 See ya ... *poof*

It's incredibly annoying that gbatemp catches flak for endorsing and allowing piracy even though it takes all the prevention it can to stay legal, while kotaku can go out there and give detailed links and tutorials and not even sound coy. They straight up are like teehee pirate it bby. And yet we know Nintendo likely won't blacklist them. Their ad revenue won't be revoked. Etc. It's unfair
