Tutorial  Updated

Modify TLoZ: Phantom Hourglass so you can play with button controls

I made a thread on this in the Hacking section, but it felt more like a tutorial to me.
That's why I'm reposting it here.

INSTRUCTIONS:
1.)
You'll have to find the patch, since I'm not sure if it's legal (hint: romhack) and then use XDELTA (UI version is recommended if you're not comfortable with command line) to apply it to your own ROM.

2.) Rename the ROM to whatever (mine was phantomdpad.nds), use a zipping program to zip it and then rename the resulting .zip to:
rom

3.) Next, find the rom.zip in the "content" folders of your extracted WUD (don't ask where to find one) and replace it with the previous ROM.zip you just made.

4.) Copy to your SD Card like any other Loadiine game and launch it from Loadiine. ENJOY! :yayu:

Please note that, in some instances, you MUST still use the touch screen.
An example is drawing a path for the Boomerang or ship.

Just wondering, did any of the two LoZ games on DS use the D-Pad at all or was the touch screen literally tacked on for movement only because "innovation"

I havent played the games since their launch (probably never will again.)

In Phantom Hourglass the D-PAD was used to bring up the map but that's all I can remember.

spirit tracks and phantom hourglass both use the same control setup so yes you use the screen for movement on both

That is super annoying... I hate forced touch controls.

Especially in DeSmuME. Flinging your mouse from one side of your desk to the other just to swing your sword isn't my idea of a good time
I'm sure Nintendo thought of the gameplay mechanics' enjoyability on an emulator

Agreed though, would be dead easy to have added the d-pad as an option since it wasn't used for anything else
