Then what's the purpose of screen init if it's not needed?
its needed if you want to be able to use boot managers and payloads that dont init the screen like uncart and normal decrypt9. the small side effect is a short flash when cfw boots. thats part of fixing the 3d bug we had before.

Th
There is also uncart, and maybe other cfws you want to be able to boot sometimes(maybe later gw). Its not possible to boot more than one other payload using aureinand alone.
Also you would need to have a special decrypt9 version with screen init to be able to use it on aureinand and arm9loaderhax without screen init, while bootctr9 has screen init included with support to configure screen init and screen brightness(later also for the payloads itself).
Thats actually great.

Btw did you remove the debug on bottom screen and static when using screen init?

Confused on 1 minor/major thing

Is the file installeda9lh required to be in the rei folder if you wish to update sysnand using system settings OR does AuRei automatically protect firm0/fim1

I am hearing mixed reports

thanks

"/rei/usepatchedfw": If you wish to have a slightly faster boot at the expense of up to 3 MBs of SD space, you can create this file. However, remove all patched fimwares from the rei folder if you were using this with the 9.0 exploits and then switched to A9LH, or when I say so with a new release!
I don't get "at the expense of up to 3 MBs of SD space". I created the file(deleting the .txt file extension) but I don't see anything ELSE being created in the rei folder that is ~3MBs. It's the same files as before + "patched_firmware_sys.bin" which is 936KBs, the same as firmware.bin

Yeah, that flag only tells AuReiNand not to recreate patched firmwares every time.

Well the usedpatchedfw flag creats the patched firmware files so up to 3 patched firmwares on your sd each about 1 mb and aurei will use them for the next boot instead of patching the firm files on each boot. So booting up with the flag set is a bit faster, but to update the patched firm files you have to delete them and let it creat new ones. It creates for each boot option a firm file so one for sysnand with 10.x, 9.x and emunand 10.x or 9.x. When you only use sysnand it will only create the firm for sysnand 10.x. If you use the old set up like my self it will create 10.x emunand and 9.x sysnand firm. You could also boot into sysnand with 10.x so it would also create that file.

@Aurota Wright, do you see a way to replace the splash.bin with a Video file? like dpg or even mp4? with that we would have a nice animated Boot :)

@Aurora Wright you plan to add this new region-free patch to your cfw?

Since neither Aurora nor Rei have ARM11 code up and running, I doubt it for now. If it was that simple, ihaveamac wouldn't have bothered trying to patch the menu/NS CIA directly. I doubt it'll be too much longer before we see clean patches though.

Honestly, rxTools-like region-free patch is useless. If we can not change running language, there is no point in such patch.
