Just started using WiiMC today. I converted a DVD to AVI and the playback was pretty choppy. I am playing the AVI from a external HDD via USB. Anyone else have this issue? The FPS on the AVI is 29. Maybe it will play smoother if I lower the FPS?

No lowering FPS will do nothing. Theres to much factors here we don't know.
What codec are you using?
What is the resolution?
What is the conversion program used?
Does it play fine on your computer using xx?

The file plays just fine on my PC. I used DVDFab8. Converted to Generic/AVI/MP3 and the rez is 720x404 with a total bit-rate of 1499kbps.

It should play just fine...
unless you are using h264 codec with 1.08-1.09
you did not tell me what codec and wimc version
alternatively you can also try 1.07 if youre on 1.10 already

I'm having an issue lately with my SMB shares. Using XP Pro, as long as simple file-sharing is turned off, I can connect to my shares just fine with a user name and password I created. Recently though I've been wanting to set up open ps2 loader to play ps2 games over the network, and that seems to want simple file-sharing in order to connect to my game share.

I don't know what's going on, cause I could have sworn I used to be able to connect in wiimc just using simple file-sharing and I don't know what changed. I just realized my guest account was turned off, but turning it back on still doesn't let me connect using simple file-sharing.

Edit: Well, I'm able to connect with my PS2 by giving "Guest" permission on the share. Still wonder why simple file sharing used to work but not anymore though.

I am using WiiMC 1.10. And its a Xvid codec.
I just found this...
* DVD playback, with DVD menu support (newer Wiis have incompatible drives)
* Files with AVC/H.264 video streams (typically .mp4, .mkv or .flv's from YouTube or other sites) with resolutions up to 720x480p usually play correctly.
* Files with MPEG-4 Simple video streams (typically XVID/DIVX .avi's) with resolutions up to 656x352 play correctly.
* Files with MPEG-2 PS video streams (typically DVD rips and TV-DVR recorded .mpg's) with resolutions up to 720x480 play correctly.
* Files with MPEG-2 TS video streams (typically HDTV recorded .ts files) with resolutions up to 1280x720 play correctly.
* AAC, AC3, FLAC, MP3, OGG Vorbis, WavPack, and WAV PCM Audio Streams all play correctly.

So that answers my question.

I use WiiMC 1.10 and dont have any problems with the xvid avi playback. I use higher resolutions than what they state and no problems. I use DVDFab 8 to convert also.

I'm still using ver 1.0.6 and all works well for me. No need to change until I hear the lastest release is totally stable.

WiiMC player works downloaded from HBC, WiiMC Channel installer tells me I need ios58 (already got ios58 with USB 2.0) so I tried to re-install with IOS58 installer (which fails to install). anyone got WiiMC Channel as a wad instead?
I'm having this same issue. Can't figure it out.

Delete IOS58 using ATD and re-install it, you are probably using a patched version with revision number at max, which would explain why IOS58 installer fails to update it and channel installer does not find a valid IOS58.

The other case is when you have IOS58 installed, but you haven't yet reinstalled HBC so it isn't using it. I don't know how I can make the error message more explicit, it clearly states to reinstall HBC:

"This channel installer requires IOS58. Please install IOS58, reinstall the Homebrew Channel, then try again."

A little bit early, but I noticed that the update URL has changed from "http://wiimc.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/update.xml" to "http://www.wiimc.org/update.php". So those who for whatever reason would like to block WiiMC from updating or showing the update NAG, you need to enter the new address into your routers for v1.1.1.

I just updated my WiiMC player using the in app prompt.

Since then the audio is totally f*cked. It's like it's when you've recorded something way, way to loud, loads of clipping and it's just really distorted. It's not my settings, nothing has changed, I've checked everything.

Any ideas? Can I just roll back to a previous version?

Thanks.
