I have created a poll to see what users think is the best Windows OS, I'm asking you all to take into account the following:

Performance
Compatibility (refers to pc programs this also includes fresh installs and uninstalls and how long it takes for each on each OS!)
Boot Up Speeds

Things like that, when you vote take those things into account, honestly those to me any ways are the most important! In the end I'm just curious as to what you all think we all have are own specific tastes on the version of Windows we like best! I like 7 allot but find my self enjoying 8 more and more every day!

Please note these are all personal opinions from you, I am not looking for out side site sources or care if some one else has done something like this or similar as peoples opinions are always changing! :)

I love it when people get all mad about Vista when they aren't even aware that after some updates and a Service pack or two Vista runs pretty good now. But whatever, ignorance is bliss I guess.

Anyways, I like my Windows 7 just fine despite the fact that some older programs don't work very well. Windows 8 is supposed to be optimized a lot so once that is officially released I'll get it and just remove Metro UI and will probably be using that.

I grew up with Windows 98 and XP though, so my old nostalgia memories are of those.

Except for that memory leak problem with the updater... I don't believe they ever fixed that. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Erm... I like Win7 and it's what I primarily use. I've installed Win8 on my old Vista laptop and it runs far better than Vista ever did. I can only imagine how well it'll run on a fully capable machine. So, I think when Win8 is actually released it'll be the way to go. And honestly, the Metro UI isn't as bad as everyone is making it out to be.

EDIT: However, XP was a great OS. It was the most stable OS I've ever used.

I've tried XP, Vista (What I'm currently using), 7 and 8 on this one desktop I'm using. Windows 8, by far, has been the fastest for me.

98 was buttery smooth.
Unless you had to deal with incompatible Windows 95 applications, in which case you were pretty much screwed unless you had a Windows 95 disc to copy a few system files over.

*shakes fist* I REMEMBER YOU, CDFS.VXD! TRYING TO PREVENT ME FROM PLAYING STARCRAFT, HUH? WEEELL, I'M CRAFTIER THAN YOU ARE! SEE WHAT I DID THERE?

But yeah, in all other cases, it was pretty sweet and dethroned much later by the almighty XP SP2 and SP3 - gotta love'em.

Nowadays the best of the best is the latest Windows 7 SP1. Windows 8 has a lot of performance improvements, but it still requires some drivers to be perfect, and that's out of Microsoft's hands. With all the loading times Microsoft shaved off the system, I think we'll have to sing-a-song for the new king soon enough. That is, if people will finally get on with their lives and accept Metro.

Speaking of Windows...

But seriously, I'm still eager to see if the Midori project gets some urgent C.P.R and Microsoft ever finishes it. A completely new core written from scratch could revolutionize the OS.

Kind of a stupid question.
Windows 7 is windows 7.
Windows 8 is Windows 7 made retarded and touchable (preeeeetty much).
Windows XP is an archaic and long dead OS.

hmmm choices.

Windows XP for it's time was fucking brilliant, if it weren't for it being dead with no support, I'd gladly recommend it to people. However, with the advancement in technology comes the advancement in computer operating systems and for the current day Windows 7 works wonders. I'm sure I'll come to like Windows 8 when Windows 7 gets killed off.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
