Switch Frame Tap lets you play your Switch games on your PC over a plain USB-C cable, no capture card and no dock. Native 1080p at 60 fps, with game audio. It's a sysmodule for Atmosphère plus a small viewer app for Windows and Linux.
Why another streamer?
SysDVR is great, but it streams the console's own game recording, which is locked at 720p 30 fps. I wanted the game's real picture at full frame rate, so this grabs the frame before that recorder ever sees it.
How it works
- When the game finishes drawing a frame, the sysmodule copies it straight out of the game's memory, the same way Atmosphère's cheat engine reads games.
- The Switch's own video hardware converts it and compresses it to H.264, so the CPU doesn't have to encode anything.
- It goes over USB to the viewer on the PC, which shows each frame in sync with your monitor. It's about 45-60 ms from the Switch to the PC screen.
- The sound comes from the console's own recorder and plays in sync with the picture.
What you get
- 720p60 in handheld, native 1080p60 when the game renders docked (ReverseNX-RT does that in handheld)
- Game audio
- Viewer apps for Windows and Linux
- Webcam mode: the Switch shows up as a USB camera, so OBS can capture it directly
- A homebrew menu app for the settings, and an overlay to turn the stream on/off or switch handheld/docked mid-game
- Native res PNG screenshots on a button combo
- Homebrew forwarders stream too
What you need
A Switch on Atmosphère, a USB-C cable and a PC. Windows needs the WinUSB driver once through Zadig, same as SysDVR. For 1080p, SaltyNX + ReverseNX-RT. The README has links for everything.
I've tested it on my Mariko on 22.5.0 / AMS 1.11.2 with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, BOTW, NSO and some homebrew. Reports from other consoles and games are very welcome; the log is in /config/switch-frame-tap/ if something breaks.
