I wanted to try and see if eshop converts could work on cfw, but I'm not able to re-encrypt the roms. godmode9 just stalls for a moment before telling me decryption failed

unless I can find a way to re-encrypt, then I guess modified contents isnt going to happen even on cfw

This is just for flashcart collectors.
I just bought it out of curiosity about the cartridge.
It's not expensive, as it's currently around $30 on aliexpress.

It arrived today and I've been playing around with it.

The unusual thing about this cartridge is that it has two EEPROMs, and presumably each one has 3DS and NDS mode firmware.

The important thing to remember about running 3DS ROMs is that you should not use decrypted ROMs.
you must use the original encrypted ROM.

Pros.
Exfat support.
Fast rom switching.
NDS mode support (since it's a 3ds cart, this is not possible with DS, DSL, DSI).

Cons.
No firmware update support.
No direct NDS boot from LUMA3DS environment.
Expect a lot of unplayable 3DS roms.
Unable to run Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 in NDS mode.

Troubleshooting.

If LED turns red and stops working when changing roms, trimming the rom file may help.

Currently, with LUMA3DS, NDS mode does not start up properly.
However, if you rename _ds_menu.dat to *.nds and run it using NTR_Launcher, it should work.
My only problem here is the lack of Luma compatibility. Are there any good flashcarts that are compatible with the newer versions of Luma? (When I say newer versions, I'm talking about v13+)

SKY3DS+ does not appear to be in stock at the moment.
LUMA 3DS only causes the DS mode of STARGATE 3DS to fail, so it's not a big deal.
NTR_Launcher can be used to get it running, so no changes to LUMA 3DS are needed.
I will try to analyze the firmware in the EEPROM later.

You could also just use twilight menu ++, granted i am not aware of what the DS mode flashcart firmware it's based on, I assume some variation of wood from taking a look at the UI, though the Acekard2i's Firmware is the one I prefer above all else when it comes to playing DS titles

I tried running pokemon star sapphire and neo x with no success

Try to use godmode9 to encrypt your rom.

yeah I'm pretty sure there are extra checks that prevents it from being able to run modified files, even with cfw

Luma without the flashcart whitelist patched out, because we're having people running official native firm just for getting the ds mode to work, and that is no bueno

src is the same as https://github.com/LumaTeam/Luma3DS/tree/988ec17ebfce513fc4589f7b12e0d6e3894ae542, but with arm9/source/firm.c#L627 commented out

I find out the comment on github,https://github.com/LumaTeam/Luma3DS/issues/1827
If the problem caused by NoCrypto NCCH,all modified 3ds rom should work fine on Sky3DS and Stargate 3DS.
I don't have Stargate 3DS,so i don't know whether modified 3ds rom can work on the patched Luma3DS custom firmware.
im ngl i dunno what the nocrypto thing is as well as NCCH, everything i said was as face value as that because i'm fairly new to using a stargate as i never owned one back when it was poppin, so anything told to me about it is a 98% chance it's brand new info to me, srry about that

I follow the pull request to change some files(https://github.com/LumaTeam/Luma3DS/pull/1829/files) and use // to remove twl whitelist in firm.c.
If your rom was built by makerom, you need fix rom's title key by Popax21's python script().
I don't have Stargate 3DS,i only have Gateway 3DS,so i can't do any test for Stargate 3DS on Luma3DS.

I don't know, I usually just use bigbluemenu.3ds for this kind of test (re-encrypted with gm9)

but maybe gateway format for .3ds homebrew roms is just fundamentally incompatible with the way stargate or sky3ds works, gateway could be doing a lot of things we dont know about. The rom might not even have the required initial data in the first place

anyway

eNykMxf.png

however it crashes on an arm11 exception on load, but maybe my speculation about old gateway era had some truth to it. bigbluemenu could be doing something that only works on gateway cfw and would fail on luma. I should try converting the .cia of bigbluemenu instead, or at least try with an eshop game or something

yup, makerom -ciatocci bigbluemenu.3ds --> encrypt in gm9 --> fix title key, this runs without errors. the premade .3ds must be doing something gateway-specific that other cfw cant handle

so I guess the way to run eshop games and rom hacks on sky3ds/stargate, is to

1: decrypt cia
2: run makerom -ciatocci <file name>.cia
3: re-encrypt the .3ds file you get using gm9
4: run python script to fix the title key

one more thing: this works out of the box in cakesfw. it's just luma that doesn't do things correctly and needs a custom build
