The documentary that will focus on George A. Romero's movie pitch that never came to fruition for the famous Resident Evil franchise got a confirmed release date of January 7th, 2025.

The documentary has been in production for a couple of years, with the first official trailer being released back in October of 2023. The popular website for everything horror-related in media, Bloody Disgusting, got the exclusive on the news for this documentary, with Uncork'd Entertainment acquiring the distribution rights for the movie for the United States and Canada. As for other regions, Dolphin Media seems to own the rights for Europe, including UK, and is in the process of sublicensing the film for other countries according to retro and classic gaming news website Time Extension. However, it is still unknown if other areas, like Latin America or Asia, will get a distribution of the film.

Brandon Salisbury (Director) said:
George Romero gave birth to modern horror, the modern zombie, and ultimately Resident Evil.
I am honored to bring fans the untold story of his most important unmade project, to celebrate the legacy of the man that inspired me to pursue filmmaking as a career. I hope fans enjoy this ultimate experience in survival horror.

The documentary will be available both on digital and on demand on January 7th, 2025.

Well, I was flabbergasted when I learned back then that they rejected Romero's story, I mean, I could only dream of a connection between Resident Evil and the Father of Zombies George Romero back then.

It is a great project and I look forward to it, but I can't help but think about how much time has gone by since he presented this script and now. I mean, maybe he had a couple of actors in mind, maybe he had specific instructions on how to use or not CGI or practical effects... I think that with so many new people and modern techniques, the vision is going to be modified.

But hey, the project was canned by those people when they rejected it, so I guess this is the best we can get. If you haven't, go and watch Night of the Living Dead, both the classic movie and the 90's remake. Those are two of the (if not THE) greatest zombie movies ever.

Saddens me that Tomb raider was given a movie adaptation but Resident Evil not. Every game series needs a movie in my opinion.

A fascinating and extremely talented man, for sure. George Romero has even been featured as a boss in a Call of Duty Zombies map in the past! Looking forward to this, will definitely give a watch if I can.

In the gta series (2, vice city, san andreas, 4 and 5) is the Hearse called "Romero's Hearse" (named after hin).

as someone who absolutely loves zombie flicks, especially from the founder of the undead genre I really want to see what his vision of Resident Evil would have been like. Probably would have been a lot better than what we got which should have stopped after the third movie IMO.
