That's SNES9x I'm afraid - even in the latest version the very same SuperFX glitches are still there - there's also another glitch in Stunt Race FX that you can see in the level select menu screen. Only bsnes emulates those games correctly without graphics glitches it seems.

Thanks for the swift response, i have one more question. Are Famicom Disk System games fully supported yet? I noticed the file extension was on Nestopia's file extension list but the games error upon loading. Does the BIOS need to be somewhere specific?

The BIOS will still need hooking up. I'll look at it later this week.

OK - I'm taking a risk here with this release - normally I can test out Gamecube builds on my 64MB SD card with a Wiikey SD Adapter, but I have lost it and my 512MB SD card is not picked up by SDLOAD.DOL (to add to the chore I also have to go through the Phantasy Star Online exploit everytime). So I have been unable to test this beforehand even though a lot of things got changed. I'm mostly assuming that since the Wii port works, the Gamecube port (being more or less the same code) will also.

So - please let me know if the Gamecube version boots at all (either by launching the cores directly from SWISS or SDLOAD or by trying to launch boot.dol) -

RetroArch GX - Gamecube - v0.9.8.3

RetroArch GX - Wii - v0.9.8.3.1 (now with FBACores CPS2/Neo EEPROM fix)

ToadKing: go ahead and update the OP with this as well.
For SDLOAD, you have to format your SD card in FAT. SD card in FAT32 will not be recognised by SDLOAD.

your link is broken 400 page not there ect. I find wiiflow setup very confussing ect with all the magic numbers emulated nand ect. any way you can upload a package simple to use for all emulaotrs on it and such so I just need to drop in my cheats for certin emu and the roms and covers and go go go on vwii ?

Thanks for the heads up.. fixed the link in the first post and you can find it -->>here<<--

As far as the "package" you want uploaded, do you just want me to point out what you need from Abdallahterro's pack? Pretty much all you need to do is drag and drop folders to your SD/USB from his pack that is all. I can specify which one's. Let me know if you want to chat in IRC or PM me.

With WiiFlow's plugin system u can set specific rom folders to launch your games with RA. U can even use a source menu (optional) which lets u click on a small icon of the system and all the games for that specific system will show up.

There is wiiflowiki site for all your WiiFlow needs and if u need a helping hand come by the WiiFlow thread I can help u set up what you're looking for.
Thanks! I didn't know that wiiflow could do such wonderful things. Now I understand why Toadking and Libreretroarch didn't bother to improve RA's interface, Wiiflow already provides a better interface than I could dream of

After reports from other GameCube owners here I changed to another SD card and indeed RetroArch is working.

Thanks LibretroRetroArc team.

So we are at that point, now with the auto restart after core change and having gotten accustomed to its interface and amazing efficiency, RA is one stop for all Wii emulation (bar PSX,N64, ScummVM & retro lightgun games) in one.

So where do we go from here on Wii? Given the hardware and the fba roadmap, what should we expect realistically?
Oh and just to be clear, this is just an honest question, not a demand or anything as selfish and insatiable. Time is NOT a concern. We have a great gift in our hands it is worth any, ANY amount of waiting period.

Nes cores: FDS support? That is really a minor issue...
Fba core: since performance is maxed out for Wii due to RAM, only improvements i could personally ask IMHO is a full name display for the roms (for example kod.zip would show up as King of Dragons, etc) and maybe IR support (iirc Toaking already did that for SDL mame and works great). That text menu idea that was posted a few posts back was nice, too. That's it. IF neo geo rom caching is possible, that would be cool too, although thankfully most of the big neogeo roms are already on VC or injected.
Mame 0.72: for some roms that elude fba
VBA Next: to be replaced by gpsp core?
Doom core: wider wad support? It is already amazing that it supports so many wads. A pic of working wads directory:

Btw, the latest pack included a nxengine core, would you like us to test it out?

Once again thanks and congratulations on a stellar work so far!

I agree, the most recent release no longer feels like a WIP, it is absolutely excellent. I commend the developers on a superb job.

In relation to what you have listed above, I think quite a few of those are possibilities going on what Squarepusher has said in previous posts. If rom caching for Neo Geo games is possible, could that also mean support for some larger roms on FBA aswell? For example, Knights of Valour on PGM.

I am delighted with the current release so any improvements at all on an already superb package would be simply a bonus. Keep up the good work guys, we really do appreciate it.

I forgot to exclude that one - anyways, Cave Story should work but sound effects are totally screwed up right now. And since some of the sound effects were used as 'drums' for the music, you'll notice the music being incomplete as well.

Another thing is that it's heavily file I/O bound right now - everytime you pick up a treasure chest or enter a new room, it starts reading from files on the SD card - this of course slows down massively.

Anyway, NX Engine will get a major revamp before it's 'officially' released on libretro consoles.

Also, ScummVM is indeed being added to libretro/RetroArch for 0.9.9. Port is already 'working' in a way.

Regarding the Gamecube port -

I think it's best if we make each libretro core for Gamecube standalone instead of trying to do this 'core switching' on the Gamecube - it simply isn't scaleable since we have to copy the DOL to ARAM (around 16MB) everytime we want to do a core switch - I could be thinking of better uses for that extra block of 16MB RAM instead of it going to waste like that - plus it isn't really stable anyways and I expect most people will just be loading the DOL files directly from some loader.

I'm going to release a new version of the Gamecube port with that in mind - it will also have a CPS1 FBA Cores (I really can't believe you couldn't even play CPS1 games on a Gamecube properly without GC Linux)

Ah, I hadn't realised that RetroArch would support ScummVM in a future release, very cool. Are home computers in the pipeline also? Like UAE for Amiga etc?

I'd still would love to see setting different inputs to the same button. Overall its great though.

Speaking of the SuperFX chip. One thing I noticed in all SNES Emulators (except BSNES, which I can't run anyway)
is none of them can handle credits part of Yoshi Island where the stork flies away in the sky. All Emus I tried it on slows down and DE-synchs the music at the end. I wonder can this emulator handle it since it can run Starfox with no slowdown?

Downloaded version 0.9.8.3.1 and I can't save dipswitches in Fba core.
I'm trying to turn the blood on in Metal Slug 1 or other things such as Freeplay but once I restart RA all changes are lost

Only EEPROM saving is hooked up right now. Everything else - you're on your own - I'll have to look into it is the best I can say.

Once again some major/minor problems.
Some cps and cp2 games cannot be started or controlled properly (tested with ccpro)
For instance forgotten worlds cannot be started.
Ecofighters cannot be controller properly ( rotating cannon of ship )
Hyper streetfighter 2, marvel vs streetfighter, marvel vs capcom, streetfighter alpha 3, vampirehunter2, vampire saviour, vampire saviour2 and mmatrix only sound with black screen.
Xmen children of the atom error upon loading

EDIT this is probably only a problem using the full fba core.

WHO ELSE IS TESTING???

You are not testing properly - that is for sure.

You have outdated ROMs. All of those games work just fine.

For CPS2 - use FBA Cores CPS2. This goes without saying.

There are also cps1 games in the list.
Here are some games with palet problem fba core:
from the top of my head:
Ultraman - Konami
Surprise attack - Konami
Rollergames - Konami

How am I suppose to control the cannon in ecofighters???

Eco Fighters I would have to test - admittedly I haven't really played that game much.

Regarding Forgotten Worlds - that worked the last time I tried it. Just to satisfy you I'll try it out another time on Wii.

You were right offcourse about using the cps2core instead of the fba core, my bad.
But I would would appreciate you looking into the controls.
Thank you.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
