Hello, I am dhtdht020,
I led the Open Shop Channel project until around half a year ago, when I left it to move on in life. However, one thing I kept to myself is the desktop client I've created, Open Shop Channel Downloader.

I've just released a new version. This is the first new release in over 2 years.

This new version improves the process for downloading applications directly to an SD card or other storage device, adds support for sending apps through a USB Gecko, and a bunch of other miscalenous improvements noted in the patch notes on GitHub (dark theme support...).

For those who don't know, OSCDL is an open source desktop client for the Open Shop Channel to obtain and send homebrew to your Wii over the network, and now over USB Gecko as well.

Here is a screenshot:

And here is a peak at the new USB Gecko sending feature:

The new release, the full changelog and credits are available here: https://github.com/dhtdht020/osc-dl/releases/tag/1.4.0.
An installer and a binary is available for Windows, but Linux and macOS are also supported.

Main thread (Incorrectly labeled as hardware because I posted it on the wrong forum): https://gbatemp.net/threads/oscdl-d...open-shop-channel-and-send-to-the-wii.577508/

Have a great day!

I'm curious what ever happened to that idea of embedding the OSC into a Proton app. Was it scrapped or improved on?
A few years ago one of the maintainers of the OSC at the time personally experimented with a nice looking Electron application if that's what you are referring to, I don't think this ever saw the light of day.

Is there a way to download all apps at once or do we have to download one at a time?
At the moment, only one at a time.

I am referring to that, shame it didn't take off but was an interesting concept regardless.

@Xdqwerty, Yeah me too, pretty fascinating. I'm more on the gorey side of lost media stuff though
  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:
I'm kinda pissed I most likely lost both games a few years ago when cleaning stuff
  • _Ruri_ @ _Ruri_:
@Xdqwerty, uhh, yeahh... lol, never actually watched one though. Still pretty fascinated by it though

  • _Ruri_ @ _Ruri_:
I love finding 9/11 footage tbh
  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:
I had just come home for lunch when the report aired ok TV about 9/11
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@_Ruri_, I already watched some 9/11 footage and got traumatized so no thanks
  • _Ruri_ @ _Ruri_:
@Skelletonike, How was hearing about 9/11 live? I wasn't born yet. Must've been absolutely terrifying.
  • _Ruri_ @ _Ruri_:
@Xdqwerty, Whoops, sorry. Wasn't my intention, my bad.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    @_Ruri_, dont worry
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@_Ruri_, also I'd like to ask some people here how was 9/11 for them but I think that would be insensitive
  • _Ruri_ @ _Ruri_:
@Xdqwerty, Whoops, yeah, you're right. My bad. @Skelletonike Feel free to not answer if you're not feeling like it.

  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:
@_Ruri_ Sorry, was playing and didn't notice. Well, it was just weird. I was what. 10? It was on tv and people were jumping like flies. It was something in another country so it didn't really affect me, but it was a powerful video.
  • K3Nv3 @ K3Nv3:
We all got to go home early during 9/11 most kids didnt understand what it meant and just was happy to go home
  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:
Soon after there was also a local disaster where a bridge fell and cars were falling and people dying. It was a weird time when it came to disasters tbh.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@Skelletonike, watching that kind of stuff traumatizes me
  • _Ruri_ @ _Ruri_:
@Skelletonike, Don't worry. It's probably one of the most iconic footages ever imho. Really powerful.
  • K3Nv3 @ K3Nv3:
Most Americans aren't even that sensitive towards it anymore so don't feel shame in asking it's part of history
  • K3Nv3 @ K3Nv3:
Respect history but don't feel afraid of asking
  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:
I remember my grandparents were worried at first since my uncle had been there a few days before that disaster. Thankfully he had finished his meetings and returned to Zimbabwe when that disaster struck
  • _Ruri_ @ _Ruri_:
@K3Nv3, Okay, thank you. I like asking about this kind of stuff, they don't exactly happen everyday and I think there's a lot to learn. It's... a bit sad seeing kids be happy about going home, but they're kids though so can't blame them. It still feels weird though.
  • K3Nv3 @ K3Nv3:
@_Ruri_, you said you're German right? I like learning about Auschwitz doesn't mean I want to go out and eliminate an entire race lol
  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:
Well.... The Portuguese were great at killing Muslims.
  • _Ruri_ @ _Ruri_:
@K3Nv3 Nope, Italian, the example's still kind of valid though. You're right lol, I was always a big fan of history, even when I was like 6/7.
  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:
I always wanted to he a templar as a kid (still do, don't judge).
