After injecting my GC game (SSBM) Nintendont can load it but it doesn't appear to create the nincfg.bin so I can't autoboot it the next time. I'm using the latest build at the moment of this writing. Is this normal?

if you have never run nintendont, you wont have a config, i posted one like 3 pages back if you want it, put it at the root of your sd, after unzipping it that is

You need to run Nintendont from the Homebrew Channel, set your options there, and boot a game. This will generate a nincfg.bin file usable by all your titles. An alternative when building your title would be to select NO when the script asks you to autoboot, that way you have full access to the Nintendont menu. After you boot your game a nincfg.bin file will be created that all future titles will be able to see.

I made a title named Configure Nintendont with autoboot turned off with a small game like Animal Crossing just to have a title to configure Nintendont with:

Try booting nintendont from the hombrew browser first. Secondly if its an SD Card your using make sure the switch on the card isn't set to lock

...you didnt happen to back up that config before though right? Like why would that even affect it?
I just realized what it is. It's the Native control support on Wii, when I activate that, the games won't reset or shutdown... I'm testing that to confirm right now

Edit: Yes I can confirm now that when Native Control in Wii is activated, the reset combination won't work. When is off the commands work normally

well duh, of course it doesnt, the whole point of native is to not touch the game input data at all so it obviously wont even notice things like those combos.

What exactly happens when you have native control off? It emulates the control? Even when is a real Wii?

EDIT: I didn't know what. To my understanding, Native Control was for Wii to use the real GC controller and have it not emulated... And no input lag or something like that lol

The interface that the game talks to gets emulated, this makes it possible to have all these controller options, on a real wii it will still keep reading out real gamecube controllers in addition to all the bluetooth and usb ones. The native option really is only there for things like a gba link cable which is not exactly a standard controller and isnt handled in the emulated interface at all for obvious reasons.

If your vwii is hacked, go into the homebrew channel on your vwii and boot nintendont, press b when in the game select menu and set memory card emulation to on and start a game, that should fix your issue
mine is not hacked. I will look into it then. I thought I would not need it with the nintendont channel installed with wup inataller

back a couple pages i uploaded a config for nintendont for people who cant make a config, its like 3 pages back, download it and extract it to the root of your sd and everything should be fine

I have black screen with Metroid Prime europe (I can reset with the home button), it works on vWii and dolphin. My WiiU is BR / US. I tried with a base game euro, same error. I tried with a channel nintendont, game in SD, same error.

The reason for using a euro version: applying a translation in the game, requires this specified version. I have not yet applied this translation, it is not the cause of the problem.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
