Honestly, I'm not too sure, that question would be better asked on someone who does hard mods. I only mess with softmods. Mostly because they're easy to do, and I enjoy using them, also, I feel like there is less risk throwing your console in the trash if something goes wrong. If history has shown us anything, by the time Nintendo releases the Switch 2 or what ever they decide on calling it, the Switch scene will be on down pat. Look at the Wii, Wii U, and 3DS; unless I am mistaken, every model can be soft modded today and run Homebrew.

I'll just wait until the soft mod scene finds a way to soft mod the OLED models. It's just a matter of time before all models of the switch ends up like the Wii, Wii U and 3DS systems, I think?

This has been discussed multiple times actually, no one is able to tell if there's going to be a softmod for v2 / oled. Maybe in the future, but as of now, we are very far from it, or at least, that's what it seems like.

Your switch wont break if who did the soldering job did a good one Again, if you have V1, be careful with that SD card

the one who did the welding work for me assured me that he put spacecraft v2, he has done a good job

agree, most cases oled die due to failure installation of the mod chip. until now I have never found a case of oled die or damage because of the 5v issue, i don't know what the effect of 5v, i'm on spacecraft v1 already tried one boot without sd card and now my oled is fine. looks like it won't break easily. but still advised not to do it. use it as usual and don't worry too much. have fun with your oled

I should be safe as long as I boot with a proper sd card right? I also tried to boot mine serveral times without a working sd card before I knew this and it is still working now.

I own an OLED v1 as well and works just fine. I'm not an expert when it comes to boards etc. but i would assume it's something that would damage it in the long run, or constantly pushing 5V where it shouldn't.

Just keep that SD in and you'll be fine!

Does anyone know what would happen if the sd card failed while running emunand on spacecraft v1 on oled? Just trying to see if the switch would stay powered on after it fails, or it shuts down or if it reboots?

Basically just trying to see if it fails while in use/sleep mode if it would immediately start sending 5v and killing it or would it give a chance to swap the sd card to prevent damage.

If the SD card is disconnected while in use, even while sleeping it will popup the "The Console Will Power Off Now" error. It would only possibly be configured to send 5V if you don't sort out the SD card before it's turned back on again.

I own an OLED v1 as well and works just fine. I'm not an expert when it comes to boards etc. but i would assume it's something that would damage it in the long run, or constantly pushing 5V where it shouldn't.

Well, to be more specific, if you forget to put in an SD card or you put in an SD card that doesn't have a payload.bin in the root of the SD card.

Apparently has been found out that the misconfigured code gets executed if your SD card or "payload.bin" is not being recognized from the switch when you turn it on. So, pretty much, yes. Or, if your sd card dies or "payload.bin" is misplaced.

The whole SD card dying thing is what has me worried since I paid an installer to install the hwfly lite modchips I bought with spacecraft v1.0 on 2 different OLEDs. I know the risks of turning it on without an SD card or payload.bin not being present, it's the SD card randomly failing that has me worried.

If someone wanted to test the following scenario, would be greatly appreciated.

A hacked switch (doesn't necessarily have to be with a modchip, just hacked in general) running atmosphere in emunand, plugged in official nintendo usb charger. Then remove the sd card without waking up the switch. I assume removing the sd card would be similar to it actually failing (at least I hope).

Does the switch automatically power off and back on due to it being plugged into a power source? Does it stay running with an error message until the user pressing a button?

The point of this test is to see if by the small chance of the sd card failing while sleeping docked or while using it will give the user a chance to swap the SD card before the modchip has to glitch again. The worst case scenario would be if the sd card fails, the switch automatically restarts and then 5v gets sent from the modchip failing to find the sd card.

and this was in emunand atmosphere while plugged in usb? if so, that's great news to hear

Thank you very much! Yeah the only reason I mentioned the plugged in part is because I was uncertain if the system shutdown after the removal and maybe leaving it plugged it would trigger the system to start back up automatically.
