Hey folks, had to resort to making an account to ask since none of the other threads or online guides have worked for me. I've been trying to load a WBFS on my 128 GB USB 2.0 flash drive through usblaunchergx / cfgloader / wiiflow, but none of them have worked consistently so far. The most common result is that on selecting play for any game, the screen goes black and my Wii freezes (doesn't respond to power or reset buttons, have to unplug), although sometimes wiiflow is nice enough to at least boot me back to the Homebrew Channel. Every now and then the game (Metroid Prime Trilogy) does run, but it crashes after I select my difficulty and any of the 3 games try to load (the logo appears at the bottom right and the Wii freezes like before). I've enabled "Block IOS Reload" in both usbloagergx and cfgloader, but that actually stops the game from launching at all. I've gone through all the aforementioned steps with base 56 in slot 249 and 57 in 250 in all these versions: v6, v8-final, beta52, and beta53.
For reference, in usbloadergx, the only loader which successfully launched the game at all, the settings that worked temporarily were:
-Video Mode: Force NTSC
-Loader's IOS: 249 or 250 (tried 58 which was default but that didn't work either)
-Game's IOS 249
-Block IOS Reload (tried all 3: on, off, and auto, only off and auto worked)
They can detect the games and everything, and I know it's not a corrupt .iso since I verified it with both Witgui and Wii Backup Manager (albeit through wine for the latter). I'm also fairly certiain it's not a hardware problem since the title screen thingy loads perfectly, just not the subsidiary games--and for reference, Nintendont can load gamecube .isos without a hitch.
I really hope it's not just some stupid mistake I'm making, but I'm at my wit's end and it feels like I've tried everything.

Best recommendation is not to use flash drives, they are the best way to have issues. Flash drives are constantly inconsistent.

I recommend purchasing an external hard drive like a Western Digital Passport.

Hi all, it has been month since I havent visit, its because I've been busy dancing and zumba-ing :D I forgot to update my solution here.

Solve: track my problem
HackMii installer hung
Hung on Welcome screen or stuck
Stuck because Press 1 Message is not showing

Cause by:
Very old HBC cannot run latest HackMii installer 1.2

Solution:
Use HackMii installer 1.0 as stepping-stone

My steps:
After creating ModMii folder copy_to_usb files, I add extracted folder of HackMii installer 1.0 to copy_to_usb apps folder and copy it to sd card
you can find HackMii installer 1.0 here there is a small words you can find there: Previous version: v1.0
I put my sd card on my Nintendo Wii and run HackMii installer 1.0 from my very old HBC with success
HackMii installer 1.0 can show Press 1 message
I continue by Press 1 and begin to install new HBC (from HackMii 1.0) successfully
Continue by installing BootMii (from HackMii 1.0) successfully
After finish I continue by executing HackMii installer 1.2 with success
and then update new HBC (from HackMii 1.2), update new BootMii (from HackMii 1.2)and the rest is history.

Now I can JustDance :hrth::grog:

Thank you all, I hope my experience is useful for you.

Sorry for my "perfect" english :D

HackMii 1.0HackMii 1.2Now I can JustDance all of them

Interesting. I'm not sure how many people will find themselves in this situation since most people launch the hackmii installer from an exploit and not from an older version of the HBC. But it is interesting, since I thought the latest hackmii installer would work regardless of how it's launched as long as the wii has an official IOS58 (or 61,etc) installed.

Hi! I have an issue with continuing with HackMii installer warning page.
I can't press "1" on my wiimote as it's unsync. Tried all sort of ways to sync it but fail.
I even have a gamecube controller but it's only working for priiloader menu.
Is there a way to bypass the Hackmii warning screen?
Thanks!

Hi there !

I recently bought yet another Wii to mod it and keep it as a backup in case my other modded Wii ever goes south...

Inadvertently to the seller it seems, the machine is already hacked ! :(

I hate buying an already hacked Wii, as I prefer to do it myself and make sure all is done good...

Now the thing is, it seems to work just fine ! The only thing I think is wrong with it is that PriiLoader doesn't seem to be installed...

Can anybody here confirm if this machine is OK by today's modding standards, or not ?

Personally I'd run the SysCheck through ModMii and see if it gives any recommendations, and then download & update those items as it suggests.

Hi!

I already have a haxx0red Wii, that I letterbombed and installed WiiFlow and Wii roms many years ago. Now I want to expand into the world of Nintendont, WiiWare and emulators to make my Wii the ultimate retro console.

I have some Wii-s that I have collected over the years, and I want to mod these from scratch before I do something to my current setup. I don’t know which FW they are, but all are PAL Europe.

Should I upgrade to 4.2 if possible before taking a swing at them? I am not interrested in homebrew, only emulation/Wii/GC/WiiWare.

And preferrably all served through the impeccable WiiFlow. Is this practical?

Last question: I read somewhere on the forum that ModMii might not be working due to NUS being down permanently. Does this mean that I should avoid ModMii?

No, the exact opposite, you should use ModMii! Once it downloads files from NUS, it saves them for future use, so that if u try to mod a wii in the future (after Nintendo Wii servers actually go down - they're currently still up) it will still work.

Edit: if/when Nintendo servers go down, all softmod guides will be impacted, not just ModMii. All guides will have u install a cios, and cios's take a stock nintendo ios and customize it. So in the future if servers go down you will definitely want ModMii to have a complete "temp" folder full of Nintendo files that are currently available. If you don't, one would need to get these files from other sources which would be in violation of copyright rules. I'm sure people will end up doing this, and I wouldn't be surprised to see an underground version of modmii that includes a complete "temp" folder surface if/when servers go down (to be clear, I will never bundle this with modmii, I'm just speculating)

Thanxxx, for the swift reply!

Then I wonder about the upgrade question: Shoud I upgrade before modding? 4.2 or 4.3? Or does ModMii do that for me too?

ModMii will do it for you. Just start working through the guides questions and select "never modded" when asked, even if it was it'll just update anything needed. During the questions It will ask what system version you are on as well as region and then what system version you would like to go to.

Being in the states I always upgrade my system versions to v4.3U. I have modded more than 50+ Wiis and have never had any issue with any of them being on the latest 4.3 system menu.

4.2 and 4.3 are the same as 4.1 with additional failed attempts at preventing homebrew. While the risk is very small, if u lose power at a critical moment when installing a new system menu or system menu IOS it could lead to brick or semi-brick. For this reason, if you are already on 4.1, 4.2 or 4.3 ModMii will recommend your stay on your current firmware because there's nothing to be gained by changing. The risks are not very likely as I mentioned earlier, so if u feel you want to upgrade to 4.3 just to see a bigger number, if it makes you happy, go nuts! Lol

IMPORTANT
If you were to do an official update to 4.3 on a wii that was originally Korean and region changed to a different region, an official Nintendo update will lead to a 003 brick (unless the same wii had previously been modified by modmii, then it will survive this scenario). If you upgrade to 4.3 using modmii it will be safe regardless of it's original region. Most ppl that have these region changed wii's get them second hand and often don't even realize they were ever Korean until they 003 brick. Check your serial number before doing an official update, or just use ModMii.

First you should ask yourself if you can install BootMii in Boot2? If so, then make a NAND backup so if anything does go wrong and you brick you can recover. I only ever bricked 1 Wii (thank God I had BootMii in Boot2 and a NAND backup) and I believe it had something to do with me hacking a 3.2 system menu Wii and then updating after to 4.1. I was following Mauifrog's Softmod Any Wii guide when I did this and they had their own modding file packages to use so it's possible that the guide missed something in my particular case. So I restored the NAND, updated the Wii via Nintendo to 4.3 and then followed that guide with no issues. Not that I think you will have any problems since it sounds like you are going to use ModMii and I have never bricked using that. But I just wanted to chime in with my specific story about hacking and then updating even though it seemed like a unique situation as I couldn't find anyone else this happened to. Good luck.

Thanxxx again for your unique story, and a great tip to backup NAND before anything!

I intend to use ModMii for the whole process, and in the ModMii Usage page, it says:

ModMii Usage Page said:
On a related note, did you know you can make a nand backup on a virgin wii before even installing the homebrew channel or bootmii? Inside ModMii's support folder is a file called "Casper2BootMii.bat", run it and ModMIi will save Casper and bootmii files to the right places so that you can make a nand backup directly from an exploit.

Does this include the exploit? Or do I need to detour to another path to be able to backup NAND?

It includes the exploit [edit: I think? Working from memory... Actually now I'm thinking it doesn't. But if you run the main wizard first, then casper2bootmii before starting to execute the guide, an exploit will be saved to your sd card, and you can follow the modmii wizard guide (except after the exploit u will skip the step of installing hbc and bootmii and go right to the bootmii nand backup step)]

You can use the standard modmii wizard/ guide if u want, the only difference would be the installation of the HBC and bootmii before directing u to backup your nand
