could you point me to where the progress is located?
All I found is this (google translated) :

5 November 2017
Unpacking game resources - 95%
Redrawing fonts - 100%
Translation of the plot - 2.4%
Translation of magic - 100%
Translation Guide books - 0%
Translation of familiar techniques - 40%
Transfer of inventory - 50%
Redraw graphics - 10%
Translation of animation clips - 100%
Translation of in-game videos - 100%

I don't see where you found 30% for text translation, it's more 2.4%
I added your website to the first post, I just want a confirmation for the percentage.
thanks for giving progress on your project :)

You all looked right. 30% is the sum of everything. How much exactly I can not say.

Translation of magic - 100%
Translation of the plot - 2.4%
Translation of familiar techniques - 40%
Transfer of inventory - 50%
Translation of animation clips - 100%
Translation of in-game videos - 100%
This is all text.

if I put 30%, that will give people a very high hope.
what you did so far is very few in all the work you need to accomplish.

you can put a lot of 100% if you want
extracting the video : 100%
decoding the video : 100%
translating the video : 100%
applying the new text to the video : 100%
checking grammar in the text of the video : 100%
reencoding the video : 100%
testing the video on the console : 100%
translating the game plot : 2.4%

See, the sum is even better :D
yeah, game is 90% completed !

no, unfortunately, the big part is the main script and I think you should base your progress on that only.
or you make it with "bloc" count.

a better way to count is to use how many bloc you translated. a bloc is a "message window" displayed on the screen, it can be up to 3 or 4 lines of text.

the games has:
700 Imagen with names and descriptions (1400 blocs minimum)
500 items with names, descriptions, and battle effects (1500 blocs minimum)
300 skills with names and descriptions (300 blocs for skills name, 300+ blocs for descriptions)
more than 100 special items with names and descriptions (200 blocs minimum)
Main script has more than 34 000 blocs
for a total of 37 700 blocs.

count how many blocs you did :
Skill name 100% ? so it's 300 blocs
Imagen techniques 40% ? let's say 100 blocs.
script 2.4% out of 34 000 ? 810 blocs done.

your real progress is : 1200 blocs out of 37 700, which is 3.18% total (I'll just put 3% in the first post for now. if you can make a proper progress number let me know and I'll update when you want)
it's far from 30%
But keep your head up and do one step at a time, don't lose hope. it's not a race, release it when it's done.

very nice start and preview of your work :)
There's no trace of residual Japanese (except the intro), you had to find all the needed string to do it ?
I'm sure the text you extracted is not ordered the same way than when you play. you had to search all the buttons and menus, NPC, etc.

anyone interested in getting this game translated into Irish? I have no romhacking skills but I speak Irish and I know another person who'd be down to do the translation aspect with me.

Anjiera, I see you are still working on it, just wanted to express my warm feelings of encouragement in these dark months.

FYI: Just updated the top post on this discussion because...

WE FINALLY RELEASED OUR ENGLISH TRANSLATION!!!! WOOO! It feels so good to be done. Oh, and we also translated the entire Magic Master book. Just cuz. (^_^)

Enjoy!

Also, if you are working on a translation in another language and would like to have our English source files, we can talk about making that happen at some point. Just, let us all have a week or so off of the project to unwind. Ha ha. :)

  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
Karma177 @ Karma177: @The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really...
