Hi, everyone...

Maybe it's too late and rarely out there played this game. But, I just found it and love this game (I feel nostalgic, I had played MapleStory when kid haha...That time, it was only on pc)

Since I'm not good enough to arrange some opening words.
So...let's get started.

What's going on? (Sep 24, 2022)

Finally all AP-Fix worked for YSmenu users and TWiLight++ users. Update to 0.6.3 and next patch will be released after Rogue playthough complete.

Release (testing purpose)

Testing Release (only warrior 100% finish, please test warrior path. Choose 'simple-minded' for first play.)
If you found grammatical error, typo, format mistake (ie. break in the middle of words, unused space, no period, or incorrect reading sign), or anything that seems wrong, please report the problem type, where it is (ie. warrior ch.7), the error sentence, fix suggest (optional), and screenshot (optional).

All patches included FIX and the converting patch from the bad dump to the good dump.

Note: Please use the patch only on a Japan ROM dump.

Completed Save Data

Save Data provided by ereb.
Mirror here.
Note: Save Data from
Korea ROM can be used in Japan ROM and vice versa.

Cheat

This file has the latest updated database by DeadSkullzJr and was edited & verified by me for MapleStory DS 2022 Eng.
The original thread is here.
Note: Rename usrcheat.dat to cheat.dat if your flashcard using cheat.dat. For testing purposes, only provides usrcheat.dat.

Known Issue

  • Not compatible with NDS-Bootstrap (fixed in patch 0.6.2)
  • For some flashcard especially clone: If booting from YSMenu, you will got Errcode=-4 (fixed in patch 0.6.3)

Translation

Graphic Translation (COMPLETED)

Graphic Text 100% Translated Inc. "True Ending" FMV
List of things that won't be translated (not affected stories and playthrough experiences)
  • Button, Sub-title, or Title that also has English text
  • Handwriting notes in concept art
What I'm to do here is to compare the original checksum file with the Chinese translation file, since Chinese translators handle all menu translation. Then, get around ~50 files to inspect. I've done some manual inspections to double crosscheck all graphic files.

In-game Text Translation (Ongoing)

Warrior10/10
Rogue1/10
Archer-/10
Magician-/10
  • [Done] Machine translation
  • [Done] Machine proofreading
  • [Done] Fix All Naming (Char, NPC, Places, Item, Equipment, Job, description, hint list) thanks to www.hidden-street.net
  • [Done] Tree puzzle
  • [Done] Pigmy's quest
  • [Done] Ship part puzzle
  • [Done] DNA puzzle
  • [Ongoing] Fix format, proofread, & alter some conversation to make it more acceptable at least.
  • And many many more...pls check it regularly.

Tools

Tinke (lots of stuff, very grateful to its author)
MapleTrans by DarthNemesis (get in-game text, easy uncompress/compress game files)
GIMP (edit tile and palette, and other graphic stuff)
Filmora (edit video and export to MPEG)
VirtualDubMod (convert video to AVI with Mobi compression)
dsbuff (a simple way to pack/unpack raw game files)
Notepad++ (text editor that has macro and RegEx support)
Python 3 (some other stuff to inject or to do the repetitive tasks)
DS-Scene Rom Tool (Have AP-fix database and tool for AP-fixing)
HxD Hex Editor (Free hex editing tool)
Cheat Engine (Searching offset address for fixing cheat)
R4CCE (Add/edit cheat database)*
TTDT_b4 (Edit extinfo.dat and libinfo.dat)*
*R4CCE and TTDT_b4 also can be found in "RGF Muti Cart Update.zip". The thread is here.

Credits

First thanks to the Almighty God, Allah.
Then, thanks to every author who has the great tool that I mentioned above.

thanks everyone :)

starting today, I'am translating all text from JAPANESE and KOREAN to ENG using machine and compare them, which is best.
and from there, I'll fix format, naming, grammatical error, and etc.

Were you translating from Korean to English and now you're back to translating from Japanese to English? Or were translating both all this time?
Also, the game is in Japanese, not sure why/how you started translating from Korean, unless the game has some Korean text?

this game released for korean and japan, but its originally from nexon korea. As far as I know, after quick compare both languages, they has some slight diff.

For now, I'm translating from Korean -> English because its more familiar in terms/naming/etc with MapleStory global, but still using Jap text for backup reference.

As before, I did compare both ko->eng and jap->eng, and found Japanese machine translation better than korean using deepL but not with others.

Got few probs with deepL (limited uses for free user, slow translation, not respect unicode format for programing, and so on)..and...I'm decided to use Microsoft Translator (2nd best choice for ko->eng) since am alreay have azure account.

Its fast and have good I/O proccessing.

Will you be doing any proof-reading after it completes the translation? Mistakes, errors are a given with software translators. It's definitely a big and time-consuming job for just one person (if that's the case)..

my plans is, just translated it with machine translator, proof reading with machine, and programing to fix format.
for proofreading it, I'll (again) use web service like ginger or grammarly.

My goal not to translate this game to near-perfect degree but to make player play for its story, and its gameplay not bad and suit to my taste :)

And somehow this game has few interesting puzzle...

Or if anyone want to proofreading it, dont hesistate to pm me :)

I really dig this game! The current translation is really poor... but at least it's semi-playable :D

Looking forward to this new effort!

Joined the forum to show some support. I would really like this game to be translated.
Something you might want to do is create a table, Korean in one row, Japanese in one row, machine translation in third row. In this way if someone actually knows Korean or Japanese, they can come and fix the translation (I know neither).

I used this video walkthrough a few years ago to complete the game:
youtube/playlist?list=PLxsZ9y2KtxHvYHhid98iRYqgPVMauLm-3
(as a new user I cannot post links)

Somehow though I lost my save. If you want to send me your save file so far, I can go ahead and spend my time completing it for you.

made progress a bit,

it's rather bit hard to do proofreading without playing it because its text script is not in order, so have to check, pack it, play it, repeat, and so on~
Are you using hardware?

Maybe using save states with MelonDS will make the process faster when testing after repacking.

For your suggestion, I'll consider it... Its data structure is a bit confusing if you look only at machine translation. Common mistakes are pronouns and nouns, even it has Korean terms for certain situations. Have to search on the internet about it.

Even, if someone has perfect understanding in Korean, I guarantee you'll have a hard time to translate if its structure is not in simple dialog list.

Ex. (Simple and Understandable):
-Scene 1 (Continous Dialogs)
-File 1, line 1
-File 1, line 2
-File 1, line 3
-And so on...

This game (have algorithm depends on char and story milestone)
-Scene 1 (Continous Dialogs)
-File 1, Line 1
-File 1, line 57
-File 1, line 58
-File 1, line 7
-And so on...

Please kindly find in attachment. For testing purposes, my save has lv.99, all skill, and all monsters. So, you don't have to fight against the optional monster. Just finish it asap.

Let me know if you finished the warrior story.

Nope even I have, for easy debug I'm using emu.

Okay, def will try it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Bump. Maybe I have some files that would be of some help?

I have two old translated roms sent through google translate at multiple points during the original redsnail project days. I have a jap>eng story translation and the latest Kor-Eng menu translation roms.

I've finished the warrior story, but I also managed to find a complete save.
Both are in the attached zip file.

Bump Again :D

Progress is exciting!!!

I'm adding this to my Wii U thread (click the bump) since this game is easily ported via injection.

Dropped a few downloads under a new post if you would like to check it out, containing the save files above bundled with the corresponding pre-patched files of the corresponding .nds format.

Updated 6/10 warrior playthrough translated.

Surprised. It has a good story about friendship and brotherhood.

Sure, if you can just post its patch through this thread or you can PM directly.

I really hope the edited nds in the second Ds file download helps. I ran DeepL with a variation of code.
Reposted the Nds from my other thread Here (2nd ds download with lv 50 saves)
I'll keep text scraping the internet to see if I can pull any more save files.

I also found that as long as the save matches the correct version and its name.nds the pre patch save will work with the post patch file, so I will be trying a savefile database for old rom files in Japanese search and then Korean search to see if anyone has anything with further progress.

I also want to see if I can get some of the help menu text, and other menu text that isn't as relevant to the gameplay translated, and the monster book totally finished, but I have to find a 100% save file first.
