Hacking Installing Theme what kind of brick can happen?

I'm thinking of replacing my theme on my wii. I know somewhat of what to do. but i'm just curious of what kind of brick i could get and how to recover from it. I have preloader installed. im on 3.2(U) with hbc. any help appreciated.

install bootmii as boot2 if you can (if not ios install will work too) and make a back up of your nand.
then you will be completely brick safe as far as custom themes are involved.

thanks for the reply should have mention i have bootmii installed as IOS. i thought there was a process involved with unbricking after installing a bad theme.

if you install a bad theme just overwrite your nand with the backup nand that is the process.

yeah should be quite fast, 5min at most for both back up and restore(separate not at the same time).
bootmii = BIG leap forward in brick proofing wii's

you should get bootmii if you can.
i never used preloader my seld so i can'ty rally say how.

Dude, you fail to mention (or did not know better), that installing bootmii as boot2 or as an ios is a HUGE difference and will not "work too" is something catastrophic happens. There is an ios (I forget which one) but if you lose that then you ARE screwed if you can only install bootmii as an ios. With bootmii if you install as an ios, then yes you can back up your nand, but you cannot restore your nand especially if that certain ios is missing or corrupted. As far as I know, noone has attempted to try the restore nand function when bootmii is installed as an ios. Many have tried with bootmii installed as boot2 and it works great, but I would not attempt trying it installed as an ios.

I guess whats important to the OP first is if he can install bootmii on the boot2.


To the OP, if you can't install bootmii as a boot2 option, then dont mess with anything else other than things that are WELL documented and you have had the time to read other peoples situations to make sure you dont kill your wii.

bootmii installed as ios can restore nand while it can't if you say "shove your own foot up your ass like a retarded giraffe" and delete bootmii as ios yeah sure you are fucked just like if your boot2 somehow get over written.
but for system menu customization it should work fine the backup has bootmii's ios in it as well so don't freak the guy out he isn't hacking every ios on his system just the system menu.
so if he get a "system files are corrupt message" he can restore his nand.

so long as the ios bootmii is installed as will run it will be able to restore nand and back up nand that simple.
but if you overwrite that specific ios then yes it will not work i said that.
you can have all other ios's corrupt except the one it is installed as and bootmii should still be able to install nand back up.
i'm not trying to argue either the giraffe thing was just my way of saying you'd have to be pretty stupid to fuck with the bootimii ios.
he will be fine with ios bootmii if he can't do a boot2 install.

so long as preloader can boot hbc and hbc can boot into bootmii or he can boot into bootmii at start up with the bottmii sd card files then he can fix a simple corrupt system menu with a nand restore.

wii system 3.2(U) softmod with TP hack
Got HBC
Preloader .29 (all available hacks to date)
bootmii. as IOS ( couldnt install as boot2)
cios rev 13b
all IOS except 60 61.

I dont know what else you might need.

You should be fine with that. One small note though. 3.2 themes and 4.0 themes are separate. Trying to install one on the other could very well corrupt your system menu. Make sure you know which is which, and if the one you want is on 4.0, be sure to use Waninkoko's firmware updater to update to 4.0.

Yes thanks I'm aware of wich is for wich. I already have the files in seperate folders so i dont mix them up. I just wanted to be sure on how to recover if i was to mess up on something. But it seems as long as i created for the appropriate system and region i should be fine.

Bootmii is nice, but if you can't install as boot2, preloader should also provide you brick recovery from any potential bricks from a bad theme. If you install a bad theme just go into preloader and install a new theme through the homebrew channel.

I still don't get why people just do things, before they inform themself WHAT they are doing....I always read up first...how this works, etc...it's better to know what you're doing...

I think that what you guys are forgetting is that BootMii as an IOS requires you can get to the HBC in some way. If your System Menu is so messed up that it won't boot, that means you would have to have something like Preloader installed.

yeah i hate it also when people dont read first before they post. And if you would have read a couple of post above I already have the app file. I wanted to know if there was an original wii theme out there. I already know how to use preloader and all that my original question was if there was a name for that kinda brick.
