I have been waiting to get one since the team first announced their hack, but I was worried about the bricking that happened around January. Is it currently safe to buy a Gateway 3ds?

Apparently the 2.0b2 firmware supports 7.1 right? Does that include 7.1.0-16U?

2.0b2 is the version that can brick your 3ds
also, 2.0b2 is the one which supports the lastest firmware for emuNAND
you still need a 4.1-4.5 firmware 3ds to use gateway though
if you are on 7.1.0-16U on your 3ds, then you are out of luck, sry you need 4.1 . 4.5

Thanks. Guess I shouldn't have updated. What does emu And do? I'd search myself but I'm on my phone. Not so easy to navigate.

emuNAND basically is a copy of your nand, redirected to the sd card and that you can then update, so you basically set up a 4.5 firmware 3ds with a 7.x emuNAND and then can access eshop with that emulated NAND / redirected NAND

Think of it like a "virtual firmware" that you can do shit you wouldn't dream of doing in your real firmware. And it's all running from the SD card. This is all possible because of the exploit launched from the system's 4.1-4.5 real NAND on the system memory. So you have two firmware's installed on your 3DS: the real one that should never go above 4.5, and the "fake" one (emuNAND) that you can have updated to the latest version if you want.

i used to go out to the recycling center every couple weeks and look at the crts and other electronics people would drop off. Usually screens were broken or severely scratched from being tossed around. Did find a good one here and there, but never anything like a 1080i widescreen crt.

Is it piracy if it was released for free? Not in my opinion, but I also think it's not piracy if buying it isn't owning it, and it's not piracy if you can't buy it from the original creators anymore.
