Like the title says...I remember having a PS3 with rebug and had to update because of the long time waiting to play new games. Now I have a patched Switch because Nintendo repaired mine and sent a patched unit. I've been waiting but in the meantime can't enjoy homebrew like RetroArch on the go and it just hit me that I never could re-hack my PS3 before buying the PS4.

It will most likely release at some point. If there's one thing I know about the Nintendo scene, modders can be very bloody determined to crack their security one way or another.
Yeah, I come here every day hoping for a Front News about it.

I keep reading that there is something but it won't be public until the new revision of the Switch because if it were to be released before, Nintendo would just patch that too.

Makes sense if the Switch Mini/Pro rumor comes true. but damn I was planning to replay Chrono Trigger before sending it to Ninty.

If not there's still 20,000,000 hackable units in the wild
Is not feasible for the future having to rely on one batch only. Also I already have 2, the one Ninty replaced and a patched one because no store nearby had old stock so I used that one legit and now have 2 legit ones.

Well only time will tell.
Man I'm sorry to hear for your troublesome past experiences.
Lesson learnt never send them in for repair.
It would be better to try and fix them themselves in this case.

Hey guys I posted this question in general discussion, but I think it fits here better since Im also looking forward to getting new games but am in debate to maintain my system at firmware 4.1 in hope of that major hack like the PSP infinity FW. I heard rumors before about every system having a major vulrunibility probably till Nintendo themselves resolves with the new Switch models coming soon. Is that still accurate, would it matter if I get a new game and update to latest firmware since it'll be earlier firmware to the new switches or will I just screw my self since firmware 4.1 is pretty good prior to firmware 3.0 which is the best?

I don't think so. Homebrew scene is guided less by "how many people will be able to run my apps" and more by "how many dope things I can do with it" - and considering massive unexplored potential of Switch, we're far from scene dying down, patched or not.

I'm on 4.1 right now. I was super upset though when I checked my serial numbers at the store, and then after I got it and turned it on was 4.0.1. I trully thought it was going to be like on firmware 3.0 or below, but go figure I guess Nintendo really went HAM to get even the off the shelf models updated. So at that point I updated to 4.1 to play Bayo 2. Totally worth it and with that guide I mentioned above turns out was not the worst idea.

Sure, developers will continue supporting it (like Vita and PS3) but what I meant was normal people. I know lots of people who had a hacked PSP mostly for the emulators, when the Switch hack was accessible to the masses all my friends hacked with SX OS (yeah yeah) and all of the reset and went official after no updates came to SX OS and they didn't or wanted to mess with anything else, I want to put my hombrews again but can't, that's 6 people less only in my circle who don't even come to GBA to read news or other things.

Well don’t update any more, there is plans for patched units on firmware 7.0 and below.

  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
  • DinohScene @ DinohScene:
    run h2testw on it

  • DinohScene @ DinohScene:
when SD cards/microSD write speeds drop below a meg a sec, they're usually on the verge of dying

Samsung SD format can sometimes fix them too
  • Purple_Heart @ Purple_Heart:
yes looks like an faulty sd
  • Purple_Heart @ Purple_Heart:
@Psionic Roshambo i may try that with my dead sd cards
    +1
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    It's always worth a shot
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@The Real Jdbye, I considered that, but i'll have to wait until i can get the eu version in the mail lol
