Castle of Heart Launch date revealed

Castle of Heart is a classic action platformer where players take control of a cursed knight who has been turned to stone by an evil sorcerer’s spell. Our brave hero must travel all the way from their petrified village to the dark ruler’s castle, mastering each of the levels along the way.

Castle of Heart offers beautiful and detailed 3D graphics with changing landscapes, weather conditions, and rich backgrounds. The game’s aesthetics and bestiary are in equal parts inspired by Slavic mythology, with some environmental details derived straight from famous, mystical locations in Poland, the developers’ home country, and the dark fantasy atmosphere of the best action platformer titles from the genre’s golden age. All of this makes Castle of Heart the perfect mix of classic influences and modern design, utilizing the spectrum of the Switch’s features, which will enchant both fans of the genre and newcomers alike.

CASTLE OF HEART MAIN FEATURES
  • A unique main character: a knight turned into stone who needs to keep fighting to avoid disintegrating
  • 20 completely different levels in 4 beautiful environments loosely inspired by real-life locations
  • Roughly 50 types of both short- and long-range weapons, allowing each gamer to find their own, individual combat style
  • HD Rumble support, further increasing players’ immersion
  • At least 7 hours of addictive, exciting gameplay
  • Epic boss fights at the end of every location
  • Breathtaking graphic design
  • Numerous power-ups that enrich the gameplay
Castle of Heart will launch exclusively on the Nintendo Switch on 23rd of March, 2018.

Looks decent. Reminds me of a less gloomy Salt & Sanctuary, which, if Imight add, would be an excellent addition to my growing Switch Library.

Animations look a bit iffy, but looks like fun! It kinda reminds me of Castlevania a bit. I was expecting it to be more dark and gloomy.

meh. Lively music on top of an otherwise dull looking platformer. I'll add it to the pile of "trying to be niche" indie games on my wishlist waiting to go on sale in the eShop.

Animations are a bit stiff but it looks fun. Hopefully they don't overprice it.
This is exactly what I wanted to say. The animations look stiff and the combat seems incredibly stop and go from the trailer. The player in the entire trailer seemed to have no fluidity, making the character look stilted. It almost gave me the impression that there was an enforced animation delay. When things like Dark Souls do delays, they make the animation long and heavy, allowing for a continuous seeming attack combo, giving far more fluidity to the movement, and making it more "realistic", or perhaps less stuttery. That's the first thing I noticed.

It might also just be me, but the art direction and coherency seems to be a bit lacking. Might be the 3d models, might be the way they are shaded, but something seems incredibly off.

Second look: some of the artwork is definitely uncoordinated. First point of notice: the UI is flat, but the game is 3d. Another one: The doors of the first castle contain extremely little grit to them, making it extremely obvious that they are flat planes rather than an actual wooden door. Third point: The entire damn snow area, holy hell did that first cottage look out of place, while the snow and white spraywork make the flats of the polygons even more pronounced. Final point: That, what I'm assuming, Unreal 4 glare filter; rock doesn't shine like that, it looks unnatural as all hell.

no offense to the people that made this, but this has all the hallmarks of a crappy steam game trailer. 3d models stiffly animated on a 2d plane (*1), seemingly made in unity, disjointed gameplay that doesnt seem to know what it wants to feature (*2), fast paced editing with rapid cuts never staying on one scene for too long (*3), models, effects and set pieces that appear to be of different quality or do not fit together (*4) ETC.

  1. the walking animation at 0:48 legitimately looks like how people use to animate characters in happy wheels
  2. Is it trying to be a tough action game or a platformer? The editing in the beginning is clearly emphasizing combat and difficulty with the cuts showing the avatar fighting enemies and dying several times, while they use the slogan "Break their bones or become cobblestones" , only to spend the rest showing off action setpieces and platforming.
  3. Bad steam games often utilize this fast editing technique to hide buggyness or bad animations.
  4. The models are very very odd and disjointed. The main avatar is quite nicely modeled, but things like background elements and enemies do not match his art style. The other models also do not match the same level of quality either. For example, what the heck is up with the bird at 0:57? Its texture is awful, the model stretches badly in the animation and parts of it are awfully angular. The hud is done in a 2d style with clashes with the 3d behind it too.

Looks fun, but it gives me that ghost n goblins feel, not sure I want to have broken armor all over the place, then see underwear man. Not ready for that super challenging gameplay again . :ninja:

  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
  • DinohScene @ DinohScene:
    run h2testw on it

when SD cards/microSD write speeds drop below a meg a sec, they're usually on the verge of dying

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    It's always worth a shot
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@The Real Jdbye, I considered that, but i'll have to wait until i can get the eu version in the mail lol
