Hacking Best Rom Trimmer

Hi,

I think it would be useful if we could compile a list of all ROM trimmers, and how good they are. Also - is there a trimming FAQ / guide anywhere.

Has anyone used the Offline list trimmer- any good?

Well, I can start your list but I can't verify the quality of the programs...

R4 has a trimmer
EZ5 Hybrid tool can do a simple trim with nothing else

Apparently the R4 trimmer is unsafe. I recommend ShortFuse's DS-X Manager or NDS Trimmer

I also recommend the dsx-trimmer. The R4 trimmer starts trimming at the wrong position apparently.

Every game I trimmed with R4 have worked. No problems as of yet.

I think the only 2 safe trimmers that I know of are:

DS-X Manager
Rominator

As far as I know, only those 2 read the headers to determine the correct size, and leave the space needed for WiFi. I did a recent test, and found out that Rominator in "safe" mode did not trim as much as DS-X Manager. I have use the latter with all my roms and have yet to come across a single problem.

I want it just like the R4 trimmer, you select the file to be trimmed, and the location and a file name you wanted it saved as
But, unlike the R4 trimmer, i want it safely trimmed

i was gunna suggest that, cus, tho your app is awesome, and i think you're one of the best developers around, listening to everyones input etc, im not into rom managers, im happy having a folder with them all in, and me re-naming them to what i see fit
but i thought you might get funny

Offline list has the best ROM trimmer, but the only thing wrong with it, is that you cant choose the name of the trimmed roms, if only someone would make a module that would let you choose the name of them though, then there would be competition.

I cant shortfuses NDStrim to even run, and DS-X Manager doesn't see my roms, so I cant load em to trim... sad face D;

i use the R4 trimmer and I've never had a problem with it.

i use the trimmer in the DS Rom tool i like that app, i havent had any problems

I use Romer cause it shows you the amount of junk in the file so you can see if its worth it to trim it.

I've used both the DSX Manager and Rominator and has yet to come with any problem even in WiFi. Both are definitely recommended

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I thought it was only meant for GBA roms.

You either snap off the zeroes/FFs at the end of the file or not. No discussion there.

And I'd suggest to check the CRC (some managers already do this) after trimming it to see if no end of file was deleted (I've seen a few roms like that)

I ment have a safe trim option for WiFi games, and full trim option for game that don't use WiFi or u dont wanna play via WiFi
