Hacking Been out of the R4 loop for a while

K, I got rid of my DS and R4 a few months ago and am looking to get another one. couple of questions though.

1) where is a reliable place to get a legimate, non-cloned R4 at a decent price(already have Micro SD card so it isn't an issue)

2) since v1.18 is the last comfirmed legitimate kernal available, up to what rom # is the R4 compatable with currently?

3) Is anyone still maintaining the cheat database on the site here for the R4?

Reason I still want an R4 is cause I really familiar with it and I dont want to screw anything up. Unless someone can recommend a flash car that has 4gb Micro SD support with a simple interface like the R4(watching movies and listening to music are not required for me). I just want to play games, use the cheat database and possibly be able to use custom skins, like on the R4, but that isn't required either.

The R4 is dead, get another card. If you want something really YSMenu is great for you. It runs on the DSTT and AceKard 2. Both are very cheap, especially the DSTT (which is only 11 dollars in DealExtreme).

Instead of buying a R4, get an Acekard 2, EDGE, Supercard SDHC, or DSTT from DealExtreme. Any of these will do. I'd get the Acekard 2 or EDGE for the basic stuff. If you're extremely cheap, then get a DSTT.

The R4s have been out of production a while back, so the chance of you getting a real R4 is very slim, regardless of where you purchase the product. Another World has purchased a R4 at RHS, which is one of the most reliable sites around, and even his R4 was a clone. Some clones, can do harm to your DS, so they should be avoided. And no, even DX's R4s aren't legitimate. The only way to get a legitimate one for sure is to get a used one, locally, or other places.

The R4 definately is not a bad cart, and does everything most people need. However, with a dead support team, and lack of game fixes have killed the cart. Yes, there is the YSmenu, but the cards I have mentioned are still getting offical updates, and have a better compatibility over the R4. If you actually bought the cart before they stopped making updates for it, and is satisfied with it, then there's no point of upgrading. However, getting a R4 at this point is a idiotic move.

Look around the forums, since this question has been answered numerous times before. If you have any more questions, shoot away.

The R4s have been out of production a while back.

Quite a few people have said this but so far I've not seen anything to back it up. Can you or anyone else actually provide proof of this. Just saying "I heard it from X that it stopped" isn't proof.

BTW, I'm not disputing that it's stopped but would like some actual evidence to back it up.

Secondly, I DID search and found nothing but people saying that they've shut down which IS NOT PROOF.

Of course since there are MANY, MANY possible combinations to try when searching, I may have missed it so if I did then feel free to enlighten me.

And Athin was the one who provided us numerous news that have been proven true. So far, other than the R4 firmware, he's always been right. And he gets his info off of the Chinese sites, so etc.

Even if you don't belive it, I haven't heard of people buying legit R4s lately. DX sells the fake ones, RHS sells the fake ones, and most of the stores I've seen sell the fake ones, and so on. Unless you have the proof that they're still in production.

there are no legit r4's anymore. just let the r4 die and i wish noobs would just let it die

It's not at all that I don't believe it as I do. It's that I'm part of a site that so far primarily supports the R4 & to date we're still advising "safe" places to buy the R4 although we do say that it's unlikely any further official updates will come.

If there were an actual official article that no R4s had been made since that date, it would be easier to re-evaluate our position.
