Hacking READ BEFORE FURTHER POSTING QUESTIONS ABOUT THE R4

I just want to answer "pre" questions in one thread before people even asks them.

So here we go:

There is no official firmware v 1.19.
- all firmwares that are higher than 1.18, or named something else is all fake. Make sure you downloaded the firmware from r4ds.cn, and v 1.18 is the latest firmware out.
No existing firmware is known to officially brick your DS.
- just to make myself clear, ALL known flashcarts are known to brick DSs. It's not impossible. But there is no "bricker firmware" and will never be.
The latest official firmware is v 1.18.
- read rule 1
A clone that works is NOT a legit card.
- look at the next rule
A REAL R4 is a legit card.
- anything else that does NOT say R4 DS, and has something else like R4 DS III or R4 DS deluxe etc are all FAKE.
There is already a thread that completely explains how a real R4 looks like.
- If you did a search, you'll find it.
The R4 III is not an upgrade, but is another clone.
- look at the rule about how a clone is NOT a legit card.
The best clone is the N5, which seems that they are actually updating their firmware with "real" updates.
- but even though this is true, the N5 team are limited by hex editing, so they cannot get deep into fixes.
All other R4DSs that have other stuff in their name is all clones.
- read the rule about how a clone is NOT a legit card.
r4ds.cn is the real site. Any other R4 bought off other sites such as r4usa.com or r4dsteam.com are ALL FAKES.
- once again.
A question that asks about the R4 should NOT be answered by recommending the cycloDS or other flashcarts.
- "why doesn't this game work on the R4??? the R4 sucks. get a cyclo." That's not a real answer. If they ask you a question, then answer it. And also read the last rule.
Supporting SDHC is not an R4 upgrade; they just switched to loader.
- just by updating the R4 firmware does not add SDHC compatibility. It's the loader that enables the card to read the SDHC.
The R4 is NOT the best flashcart you can get.
- but that does NOT mean it sucks.
Firmware v 1.19 will come out WHEN IT WILL ACTUALLY COMES OUT. Do not ask, because nobody here knows.
- when is v 1.19 coming out? Never, but if yes, then just wait. NOBODY knows when it will come out, probably it might in 20 years or maybe 50, but you never know.
Ignore beve/hexane and his own R4 scene that he is creating.
- his firmwares do no good.

- he's good at this stuff. if he says something, do not argue with him, because he is always right.

- ALL questions asked so far is all answered in other posts.
if moonshell freezes up, then turn soft reset OFF.
- It's a common question and an easy fix.
If games freezes after the title screen, turn all cheats OFF.
- again, it's a common problem. But why cheat? Do you suck at that game? Don't cheat - just don't play it because cheating won't get you any better.
Use the YSMENU if you think the R4 firmware sucks.
- the YSMENU is a hacked DSTT firmware for the R4. So as long as the DSTT firmware is being updated, you'll get the same benefits on your R4.
The hacked M3 sakura firmware is the ONLY replacement for moonshell to play the DPG files.
- No other homebrew lets you view DPG files.
The R4 cannot play GBA games without a SLOT 2 device.
- and it also will NOT play N64 games.
If you have a problem with an emulator running on the R4, it's probably the emulator, not the R4
- no emulator for the DS is known to be perfect.
The R4 does NOT suck.
- it just lack in updates and features. It still lets you play 99% of the games that you would want to play. If it can play games, what do you need more? If you don't need fancy stuff, then go for it.
The R4 is not shit either. It still plays the majority of the games, and just because it doesn't have the new functions doesn't mean it suck.

Will the R4 work on my DSi?
- No, there are currently no slot-1 flash carts working on the DSi.
Do NOT ask which cart is better, because it has been answered a million times.

Very nice post, let's hope the new users actually take the time to read it. It answers pretty much every regular question asked. Maybe you should put a link to the thread that tells how to check for a fake to save loads of "can you show me where the thread is" posts?

Great post, pity the reason for all the threads (which are annoying) is the person posting is either "me oriented" and thus unlikely to look for someone having already posted a reply elsewhere, because only their thread matters to them. Or the person is just a bit dim between the ears, and you will never succeed with them for just that reason.

now that i think bout it some more psyco. the reason we all recommend the cyclo whenever noobs ask is that they think the R4 is the best thing out there since sliced bread so we just mention what the real king of flashcarts is now and be done with it

Actually, Maikel knows very well everything about GBA and NDS and flashcarts, this questions were just a joke (because it used to be the most used question before, "Can R4 play GBA games?").....

this may sound noobish but....since the n5 is a clone of the r4 and the firmware is the same but changed the n5 firmware actuly updates! so ...back to the question IF R4 FIRMWARE SUCKS WHY NOT USE N5 FIRMWARE thanks for answering if you can but its just i havent seen anyone ask this yet and i was wondering
