I guess it's time for our monthly dose of stability™. Let me know if you find something broken or working so I can update the main post. It seems like the only change was hotspot stuff and something with the browser, so everything should work.

Nintendo just wont Give the F up on the 3DS will they? whats next we're upwards to FW 20.XX before its finally EoL? good to hear its minimal this time around. with hotspots being touched probably the last master streetpass servers lingering just went dead or something, (cant imagine there's anything left to exploit in the web browser anymore it's been torn to shreds by this point)

does this mean that following https://3ds.hacks.guide works for getting boot9strap even though the guide is for 11.8?
Thanks in advance
Have a little patience. The guide will be updated at some point. The Nintendo update does not seem to change anything important – like native firm – downloading the “Otherapp“ payload for 11.8.0-41E (old or new depending on your console) should work if you’re on the “Frogminer” path of the guide.
If you’re doing ntrboot the firmware version does not matter.

We get the first actual feature update since 9.6 and people still complain?

The last time we bad mouthed about 3DS firmware stability update, Nintendo killed our beloved freeShop (and co).

I hope to dear goodness sake they leave Frogminer alone.
Don't know where and when, but zoogie said some time ago Nintendo could kill Seedminer/Frogminer and they did not do it until now. Hopefully they continue to ignore the "*miners". On the other side... nobody really expected the server side security update that late in the 3DS lifespan. (To be honest, I never understood in the first place why the "local root" on the client was enough to download software. I'm not really a coder or an expert, but logic tells me: If I implement server security I must take in account: The clients can and will lie).

It was only a browser and a Nintendo Zone Hotspot List update. Nothing was fixed.

I'm more worried if this update coincidences with server side changes that'll stop *miners in their tracks... Knowing how Nintendo has patched many exploits, I'm trying to think of a reason why they haven't gone after these. The only conclusions I can think of are:

A) Wii U approach

Nintendo no longer gives a shit about the 3DS.

or

B) "Stop right there you criminal scum! Not on my watch!" approach
Nintendo mostly doesn't give a shit about the 3DS, except "F-u to getting free CFW".

*crossing those fingers for A*

Nothing in 11.9 suggests server-side changes (unlike 11.8 with ticket authentication for downloads although it wasn't enforced for a couple of weeks, or for that matter every gratuitous friends driver version update)

How does the bruteforcer figure out the "friend code seed"? It seem it gets it over an actual friend relationship with the victim console, so it cannot practically be fixed (permanently) without breaking online multiplayer...

Take Steel Divers - Sub Wars off the Nintendo eShop shelves. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Edit - I wonder if there's some sort of contract agreement between Vitei and Nintendo that prevents this.
