quick question as i am very new to all this.
got a wii and used this guide:

to summarise i used letterbomb, then cSIO installer, then USBloaderGX
i have wii games on a ntfs hdd and everything is working fine.
but what is a good tutorial to follow to get gamecube games working?? there seem to be a few around and i'm a bit confused.
As i understand it i would have to partition my hdd with a fat32 partition for the gc games.
then what? nintendont, diosmios??
also i am using a component cable and i think i read something about gc games not supporting 480p - is this right?

thanks a lot

Just make sure the first partition on your drive is FAT32, go to the Nintendont thread, and read the OP thoroughly. It'll explain everything you need to know about it.
Is it possible to load games in a usb loader with an sd card? I also now flash drives dont work but do some?
Yeah, WiiFlow and CFG Loader can load the game from SD. Some flash drives work will work fine or with some software. If you want something reliable and compatible, then stick to your SD card or get a USB HDD. Some people say USB SD adapters also work well.

I have installed Usb Loader Gx and I have two games on it (NSMB and Mario Galaxy). My wii turns black whenever i try to open the games and the remote turns off. I've heard about this same problem from countless other people on other forums and it wants you to install some ios's and change some settings but i don't know where to download them from or how. I tried to install ModMii but my computer wouldn't let me because it said I needed to turn off my firewall (which I did and it still wouldn't let me install). I unzipped a file called "d2x v10 beta 53 alt" onto my sd card and it made a folder with 6 ".app" files and it did absolutely nothing. I have D2x cIOS installer and I've seen tutorials but you need d2xv10beta53, and I don't know how to install it or where to find it. This is all very frustrating because I've spent 3 days trying to get this to work but it hasn't yet. The Usb Loader Gx was programmed poorly in my opinion, it should tell you what you need to fix in order to get the game to run. I'd like for someone to give me links with what I need to install, which I think is a non-corrupt ModMii.exe and a d2x v10 beta 53 file (also how to I install that).

The Usb Loader Gx was programmed poorly in my opinion, it should tell you what you need to fix in order to get the game to run.

Be careful saying things like that. Just because it doesn't work and you don't understand how to fix it doesn't mean it was programmed poorly. The current maintainer of USB Loader GX, @Cyan , has gone above and beyond in my opinion answering the same questions over and over again trying to help users out to get things working. He also listens to the user's requests and updates the loader as necessary to try and support the request. He is actually working on a small update right now. But anyway, don't take this the wrong way or as me yelling at you. I'm just saying be careful about putting down someone else's work before you learn a little more about it.

But anyway, on to fixing your issue. What guide did you follow when you initially softmodded your Wii? In my opinion, the best guide out there is the Softmod Any Wii guide over at WiiHacks (http://www.wiihacks.com/showthread.php?t=96886). Following that guide will leave your Wii with the standard setup that all programs expect you to have. I personally would have you follow it from beginning to end to make sure your Wii have everything on it that most people expect to have on it. But if all you want to do is install some CIOSes then you probably would be ok with only following Chapter 2. Just be sure you read and understand everything you are doing. I have read posts in that thread of people complaining that the guide bricked their Wii when it later came out that their Wii bricked because they didn't follow everything in the guide and tried doing other things on their own that they didn't understand.

Hope this helps fix your problem. If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask.

So, first, you don't need d2xv10beta53 at all.
You also don't need modmii
And you didn't follow the correct tutorial (or at best you didn't follow any) and just extracted half the required files to your homebrew folder, that's why you can't install the cIOS. And what I understood, you didn't really "install" it, you just extracted the files and expected the console to use them.

Second, USBLoaderGX is already doing what you ask : telling users what they need to do! since I'm the main developer I did that and added lot of messages to tell what users have to do (mainly for Gamecube games, as it's what I worked on since I'm developing it, Wii part was done by someone else), and users are still not understanding the messages displayed in the loader. so it's not done poorly, it's often useless to do it.

Third :
don't follow random tutorial and "things" done by other users who don't understand their console's internal, and maybe are specific to their console, not yours.
For example, you think you need v10-alt, but no, you don't!

What you need :
1. look in my signature, follow the syscheck tutorial and post the result here. (don't post the WRONG file, like everyone do. follow the tutorial correctly)
2. from here, we will know which IOS you already have, and we will know what you really need.
There's no use of doing things blindly. That's not the loader's fault if the user don't have the required files, and the loader can't know when a new hack is released, so it can't tell users which version to install or it might become outdated. that's up to the users to follow the hacking progress and be sure that's the right things to do "at that time".

So, just to be sure, I'll tell you again :
- Do not use modmii.
- Do not install d2x v10-alt (beta53) without knowing the reason. There's ONE specific reason why you'd want to install this version, and I don't think it's the case here.
- post a syscheck log (add @Cyan in your message so I know you replied to me and I'll help you.
- Don't follow wiihacks tutorial (unless you already did)(no offense Clutz), there's 90% unneeded steps. it will depends what you already have and what you already did. (syscheck will tell)
- I'll give you the correct files to use and install after that, with a proper guide, and will help you up to launching your games.
- be patient, don't try random things while I'm away/working/sleeping.

got it all working! its shockingly easy!

got a quick question though - using usbloadergx is there a way to get the gamecube games and the wii games displayed separately? - at the moment they are mixed together and none of the sort filters let me specify by system.

thanks

Click the button on the top that looks like an SD card and channel together (I think it's the 4th one from the left). In there you will see check boxes for Wii, GameCube, nand and emunand. Just make sure only Wii is checked to view only Wii games and only Gamecube is checked to view only Gamecube games.

Hey guys, I'm fuzzy on boot 2 in particular. It's been about a year since I last dabbled in anything. I heard it's a lot easier to downgrade nowadays. I'm on 4.3u, and I heard boot 2 offers more on 4.1. Also will micro SD cards work if they aren't sdhc? Also my original boot has been modified with a skin, which is cool, but does the downgrading process erase everything? I would love to start from scratch. I have since erased the sdcard I had used before, but I saved my nand and key files. I think they are modded also, anyways. I'll check out some new guides anyone has recently mentioned in this thread. Too bad there's never a guide on catching up. Lol

There is no need to downgrade anything. Unless you have an older Wii with the signing bug in boot1 then there's no difference in boot2. It doesn't have any compatibility or performance differences.

You can "catch up" by running SysCheck then using ModMii with the .csv file to get the latest cIOSes. :)

What is that? I've never heard of anything that used boot1. How do I know if my Wii can use it and is it worth it to do?

The flaw that allowed boot2 to be replaced is actually in boot1. It had the Trucha bug in it that allowed invalid signatures, too. Boot1 is essentially the boot block for the NAND similar to a bootable HDD.

Boot0 (in GPU) loads boot1 from NAND, checks it then runs it if it's valid. Boot1 then does the same thing for boot2. Since the original Wiis had the signing bug in boot1 they couldn't be "fixed" to close the hole because boot0 and boot1 can't be replaced.

They had a good security chain, unfortunately the weakest link in it was at the beginning.

ok so i did this but now something is funny. i can now play wii games in the normal drive, but it wont read gc games at all still. before the drive didnt work at all, now its only affecting gc games. im at a loss. if anyone has any idea, hopefully in simple to understand terms, i would really appreciate it. it sucks that its summer and my kids cant play their gc games anymore

anybody have an idea on this?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

i hope im in the right place. i have a softmodded 4.3U its been modded for years with no issues. i recently tried to use dios mios because we wanted to put our gamecube games onto to our hard drive. total failure and nothing would work. tried reverting by using the cios in another tutorial but to still no avail. so right now we cant even play our gamecube games anymore. our drive is still disabled even after trying the tutorial to revert from dios mios. if any of you have any experience or can help, i would appreciate it. thanks

system

first gen wii (2006)
4.3U softmod
cfg usb loader v70
750gb hdd in wbfs format (with exfat partition for gc games)
all the usual homebrew stuff

You need to find a wad of mios v10 and install it just as you did dios mios. That should get your gamecube games working again. Then search for an app called nintendont and use that to play your gamecube backups. It's much better then dios mios plus it doesn't overwrite your mios so you still have the ability to play your actual gamecube discs.
