Of course no one belived it was real. The Dolphin Wii emulator still doesn't run at full speed, and their team said that there won't come an Wii U emulator soon because of the hardware and such, and then this guy just came and said he's working on a Wii U emulator.

Exactly. I had every reason to have my doubts. I've since apologized to exzap and even made a video about Cemu. I will take a small victory by saying that the Wii U emulator isn't playable like many were hoping beyond hope it would be. But yes, progress has been made and credit has been given where it is due.

Honestly, judging from the work time he had and how quick this thing appeared. Comparing to all the emulators that have been done before. I would say it's A GOOD progress. And it's way beyong what people can expect for in such amount of time.
And no matter how much doubts you have, you have the right to not believe him that time (it doesn't really change anything), but in my opinion it is not wise to judge something to be a lie in front of everyone just based on assumptions without a clear evidence.
But I know as a human being myself, it's much easier to try justify our action than admitting it to be wrong ^^. So I don't blame you ;).

It's not wise to judge something as a truth or a lie if you're making assumptions, period. Evidence or not, since it can be easily falsified on the internet these days. Of course, some things would be harder to fake obviously, but some trolls like to work hard. You've all seen YouTube videos of areas in old games and stuff remastered by fans. Don't think there aren't trolls and traps out there with those capabilities.

Hard proof like demos, closed alphas, users with inside access that most users know and can be considered trustworthy... That kind of stuff is about the only thing that can be held with salt anymore online if you ask me. Even then, that stuff can get shutdown, dropped, end up stalled for years, god knows what else.

This is just one dudes opinion though. ;)

It is. I remember when the very first SNES emulator (VSMC) was finally able to display something. It loaded the SimCity title screen, and simply refreshed it over and over. That was pretty damned exciting at the time.

The difference is the hardware. Compare SNES with Wii U.

Extend the comparison to the available PC platforms.

At the time (1994), PCs were 486's running 16-bit OSes (A few people had early Pentiums). 4MB - 8MB of RAM was common, but you still needed to make the most out of your 640K of conventional memory. It was quite a feat of programming. Keep in mind this was also before high-level emulation was viable, so every hardware call had to be directly translated. We had early, incomplete emulation of 8-bit machines like the NES and Gameboy, but nothing as sophisticated as the SNES had been attempted before.

Edit: I just realized, the SNES was roughly as old as the Wii U is now at that time.
