Another proof that apple products are only bought by retarded people. Rarely seen an enourmous waste of money indented for eduction as in the example. Its a pity how some people can be so dumb.
Strange, dumbness and apple are that often in a such close relationship.

+1 to Ravager90.

It horrifies me that more and more people are becoming iPeople, that keep falling into the idea that Apple products are vastly superior because they just are. If anything, those iPods are going to serve as mighty distractions, making some sort of vicious circle of stupid people stupidifying themselves even moreso.

I've got a feeling quite a bit of this would have been funded by Apple. I know they are trying to get iPads classed as PCs so they can manipulate sales figures more easily, soon they will want iPods and iPhones counted soon so they can make out they do sell PCs worldwide.

hmm... i agree i hate apple to but they certainly have the upper hand when it comes to mp4s (ipod) and phones (iphone) you have to admit it's probably the best touch screen, smartphone currently out there... shame no one else has topped it, yet. Just waiting for the day when i can shove my, better than theirs and non-apple phone in in my friend's face...

Really can't agree with that. The HTC Wildfire pisses all over the iPhone 4 and that's an entry level phone. Spend a little more and you are getting into well kick ass pieces of kit and still for less money. They do have very good marketing, people believe the iPod and iPhone are better, but can never say why. Probably started with people wanting to show off being able to waste money.

Almost 200 Year 11 pupils at Taunton Academy now have the £150 handsets which give them access to a multitude of apps to help with their homework.
Teachers have also splashed out on 60 new iPad readers for classrooms – but insist the scheme is cheaper than forking out for a new IT suite.
‘We have spent no more money on this than we would have done on upgrading our PCs, which are out of date,’ said head teacher Mark Trusson.
‘It would cost about £50,000 for a new IT suite with 30 computers but we can give out 600 of these for about twice that amount – it’s better value for money. Experience elsewhere suggests students respond to this idea – they don’t let them out of their sight.

'Staff need to use their classroom management skills with them as they would any other educational resource.'
While pupils will be able to store music, photos, video and data files on their new toys, inappropriate internet sites and social networking portals like Facebook will be blocked by the school’s filters.

Honestly, £1666 for a school computer!?!

this makes no sense
with these the graduating class takes them leaving nothing at all for the next year of new students

with an actual pc upgrade all students can enjoy the computers.

also, how much homework can you really finish with an ipod or ipad? you'd have to head to your pc to type it up and print it out anyway :|
the students don't own them. They're loaned out, like textbooks.

QUOTE(Arctic @ Nov 5 2010, 05:16 PM) I'm sorry, what? Since when does a computer cost £1666? They could have gotten 150 new computers at £333 each easily.

I bet you the IT department was pissed.
It's not just the computers. I'm guessing they would have to use a server to manage all the computers and their respective software. Servers add to the cost, software licences (Photoshop, Flash, Visual Basic, etc.) add to the cost, and maintenance.
Even heard of Linux?

If setup right, they wouldn't need servers.
ever heard of school districts? they are universally incompetent and know nothing of linux.

I went to a HBO-school (some kind of university) yesterday where they had 2 classes full of iMac's. WIN!

1st of all, HBO is noncomparable to university since HBO is such a low classified degree you cant do anything with it outside of the Netherlands

Second of all 1666 pounds for a decent PC is not much considering its an IT class ,eaning they need some decent processing power for prgramming and such and decent graphical power for design and such so no, spending 1666 pounds it NOT much for a good alround PC
