Resident Evil 7's director Koshi Nakanishi confirms the next Resident Evil title is officially in development

Capcom streamed a new Capcom Next event on July 1st, with it focusing specifically on 3 games more than anything, these 3 games being Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, Dead Rising Deluxe Remastered and Resident Evil 7 for iOS and Mac.

During the Resident Evil 7 segment of the stream, one of the persons interviewed for the section was Koshi Nakanishi, who worked as the director for the game during its development. The questions go into how they determined the revival of Resident Evil as a horror game most and foremost, and how they went into the direction RE7 went after the backlash Capcom received for Resident Evil 6's action-oriented outing. Alongside that, they also went into detail about the upcoming Resident Evil 7 port for iOS and Mac devices, which marks now the third game from the franchise to come to those devices alongside Resident Evil 8 and Resident Evil 4 Remake.

Nakashimi has previously worked on other Resident Evil titles, being a designer for Resident Evil 5, and he has been the director for Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, Resident Evil Revelations, and of course, Resident Evil 7.

However, just a mere minute or so before the event wrapped up (at around minute 39), Nakanishi gave a short comment about the next Resident Evil title:

Koshi Nakanishi said:
We're making a new Resident Evil.

It was difficult to figure out what to do after 7, but I found it, and to be honest it feels substantial.

I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can.

It's still unknown whether or not the next title will be a direct numbered sequel/follow up to Resident Evil 8, be it Resident Evil 9, or if the next Resident Evil title will be another remake of sorts.

I hope they go back to good old zombies. I like 7 and village but blobs and werewolves just doesn't do it for me, especially the former. I feel like the series is straying more into supernatural/high fantasy and away from their bio virus roots. BSAA seems more like a paranormal investigation squad these days. Wouldn't be surprised if they go the manga isekai style eventually.

Why not a new Onimusha, Tech Romancer, or a new Power Stone? Now, it's just RE, Dead Rising, Street Fighter, or Mega Man. That kinda sucks. 😕

Dead Rising? Yeah, they're remaking that.

What a surprise !!

Haven't completed RE8 yet, but the games are fantastic, can't wait to see more. But I hope they're still remaking Code Veronica, still sad that they didn't take the opportunity to have it as the official Resident Evil 3 ...

The last one was 6 years ago, and sorry to tell you but they tried Onimusha remaster and it didn't sell at all and Power Stone was never coming back.
Dead Rising is also pretty much dead
Well, there's the « deluxe remaster », so I guess that might be a sign of a possible rebirth

Finally Capcom is doing something good! Now where are Mega Man 12 and Mega Man X9?!
Why not a new Onimusha, Tech Romancer, or a new Power Stone?
Mega Man Legends, Onimusha, Dino Crisis, Bionic Commando, Breath of Fire, Capcom's sitting on a bunch of IP's. I'm sure newer gens don't miss what they never experienced, but let me tell you, it was great time to be alive when all these IP's were coming out left and right. No shortage of creativity and experimentation.

I was joking when I said "when will the new Mega Man come out", of course. I know CRAPcom doesn't give a bother about it anymore.

To be honest, Capcom didn't pay Mega Man proper mind to begin with. Those games usually underwent short dev cycles. I can't not mention how Mega Man 7 was made in three months.

Mega Man Legends 3 was canned despite being in active, semi-community-driven development. Mega Man Universe was also cancelled around this time.

Mega Man X is a strange one because Capcom likes to stay quiet about the series. However like everything else, they like releasing two-part compilations. I think that poor reception of Mega Man X7 and poor sales of the PSP remake likely put the whole franchise on hold.

You probably meant X6, that is the worst game in the series. Also the series "ended" after Mega Man X8 came out.

Honestly, X7 and X8 are pretty good. It's X6 that sucks.
The Improvement Projects of X5 and X6 on that site you dislike do wonders for the game design. I've already bought the X collection on Steam, so I'm going to give X7 and X8 an honest try some day.

I love reading the story interpretations from fans. Really, some fans seem to have done all the homework. Apparently, Mega Man's story ends at 8, and Mega Man X's story ends at X5 to lead into Zero and ZX.

I think there could have been a market to remake Dino Crisis and make a new one, but Capcom doesn't seem interested.

It's no wonder Dino Crisis 3 sold like crap it was Xbox exclusive and was a poor game. People loved 1 and 2.

This series is wild - from medicore re5 and absolute trash re6 they've managed to bounce back somehow to two different subseries. TPP remakes and FPP madness, both are fantastic and fresh imo.
