I got my Nintendont forwarder from the Wii U Usb helper. I don't think we can link directly to a forwarder here because of copyright stuff. But you would install it like you would any other Wii U software,

If it's a channel version then yes. Otherwise you would need to launch it via Wii U home-brew loader.

yes isntall it like any game with wup installer, then you only need to have the latest nintendont boot.dol in

SD:apps/nintendont/boot.dol

and then you can pick the games from sd card, do remenber that wiivcinjects cant acess usb storage so the games must be iso on sd cards only.

Do any Wii U forwarders have networking enabled? I've launched Nintendont and a forwarder for the Homebrew channel from the Wii U in order to launch Nintendont, and neither have networking. If I go to the Wii menu from the Wii U normally, then networking is fine, but obviously I can't use the gamepad then.

I was setting up MKDD with LAN mode to play with my Wii in the other room and wanted to use the gamepad, but doesn't seem like that's happening.

BBA emulation is on, but even before Nintendont I think networking is just disabled. Even if I launch the HBC forwarder, the network never initializes. If I go to the Wii menu normally, then launch the HBC, I can see the icon blink and go solid and I can see the Wii's IP. Then if I launch Nintendont from the HBC everything is fine. For some reason networking just doesn't seem to be enabled or something for both forwarders. Is that an option in how you can make them maybe? Not sure where you got yours from but it almost seems like it's something that can be enabled or disabled for different forwarders.

I'm in the same boat, I am using the forwarder from Wii U USB Helper and the latest Nintendont from FIX94's github. Even if I try to do an update to ND from within the Nintendont app it says Network cannot be initialized. If I launch the game using ND from the vWii's homebrew channel it works fine.

There shouldn't be any differences in networking compatibility between vWii and Wii VC. I'm playing with the GamePad in a LAN game right now to try it.

Are you sure you're not somehow disabling BBA emulation, or have a config that's doing it for you?

Maybe your forwarder is out of date and doesn't know that Nintendont has BBA emulation. It me sending the wrong configuration to Nintendont.

Mind sharing what version of the forwarder (or PM-ing where you got it if that's allowed) as well as what version of ND you are using? It looks like Jimmy & I are having the same issue.

EDIT: I think I figured out the issue but I am not sure how to fix it... See I was using a wired ethernet connection to my WiiU using the official Nintendo LAN adapter. For fun, I unplugged that and switch to a connection over WiFi. Well what do you know it works now. So while the LAN adapter works fine when booting via HBC in vWii, it seems it does NOT work when using a ND Forwarder via the WiiU directly. Any ideas on how this can be corrected? I'm guessing the forwarder would have to be modified somehow to support the Nintendo LAN adapter connection.

@Jimmy_Threecocks @N7Kopper & @ccfman2004 - What connection types were you using with your WiiU?

could be that wiiu vc codding itself does not support the lan adapter.

The LAN adapter does work when booting Nintendont from the HBC in the vWii though, its simply when using the forwarder directly from the WiiU home channel screen that it fails.

One interesting thing I noticed is that unlike my Xbox or VitaTV, the WiiU does NOT keep the LAN connection active the whole time. On my networking switch it only lights up when needed such as doing a game update or (going through vWii) when Phantasy Star actually tries to connect. Otherwise the network lights are off and there is no connection.

I may be wrong but I believe when using WiFi with the WiiIU, that the connection is active the whole time. I'll have to check my router and even try to ping the WiiU's IP when idle to test this theory.

Anyhow, I wonder if when using the forwarder, (from the WiiU home screen to Nintendon't) that it's assumed the connection is active and the step missing is the WiiU telling the LAN adapter to wake up. My guess is the dev's were all using WiFi and never tested this. I know back on the original Wii, Devolution would not work with ethernet connections, only over WiFi so something about the two is different and I believe would need to be supported by the developer.

Then again ND does work fine in vWii with the LAN adapter so I am back to blaming the forwarder needing to support the ethernet connection, unfortunately I'm not sure how to do that as I believe these forwarders were built off of a tool last updated 4 years ago.

could also be that the fowarder skips some steps of vwii booting process so they never initiate the usb internet connection protocol maybe.

When using Nintendont in the vWii mode of the Wii U, are only the two USB slots at the back of the console functioning ?

For example, If I tried to hook up an external hdd and a gamecube controller adapter to my Wii U, would that setup work ?

Sorry, this issue is plaguing me for a while now and I couldnt find a straight answer so far.

All 4 ports should work. For the adapter make sure you use both plugs if you want rumble. If not make sure to use the right plug as one is data and the other is power for rumble.

depends

there are 2 ways to use nintendont on wiiu

1- enter vwii and use it from homebrew channel
2-make a wiivc inject on wiiu menu and start it from there.

on 1 all usb works just fine for hdds, controllers and such, just dont connect 2 hdds or even wiiu hdd and fat32 hdd or nintendont gets confused and doesnt work

on 2 all usb ports work but you cant use fat32hdd so you put your isos on the sd card only or inject a per game injection on your wiiu nand or wiiu formated drive

Thanks for the quick replys ! I was planning on going the two hdds route, one for Wii U, one for NGC backups, quick question on the side though, can I also install other backups of Wii or SNES games onto the FAT32 (non Wii U) hdd, or would that mess something up ?

using regular fat32 hdd on vwii you can have everything on it ps1,n64,snes,gba,nintendont and so on, its all free as long as you follow the respective emulators folder structures.

That could be, Is there a way other than WiiVC Injector to build these forwarders? That tool is so old I didn't see any networking options.

I actually am using a USB LAN adapter, so that's interesting that you brought that up. I don't think it's a USB issue, since I was using the forwarder the other day to play Double Dash with four people using the gamepad, a classic controller, and two gamecube controllers hooked up to ports 3 and 4, and everything worked fine.
It's a shame too, because I have my Wii hooked up with a USB adapter as well, and playing in LAN mode between both consoles works perfectly. On Wi-Fi it's too unstable and will eventually drop. Obviously I can just boot into vWii normally for that, but it'd still be nice being able to use the gamepad and have LAN working.

Seems likely that it's an Ethernet init issue in Wii VC mode, because I was running Wi-Fi on my test.

I am having a problem using Nintendont with Super Monkey Ball 2.
I am wanting to run SMB2 in PAL60 mode, as I am using a RGB monitor and an RGB SCART cable.
The game works just fine in PAL60 mode, however, loading any save from a real or emulated memory card instantly freezes the game.
If I run the game in PAL60 mode, but from a real disc using Gecko OS, it will save and load from the memory card just fine.
I have tried many troubleshooting steps but have not been able to solve this problem.
The game freezes in Nintendont whether I am using a real disc or an ISO.
This issue with SMB2 and Nintendont also affects SMB2 custom hacks. The game and hacks will initialize and create a save, but if I ever try to load the save, it will freeze.
I have no issues loading saves in any other game running in PAL60 mode.
Thanks for your help!

I made a post about this elsewhere on the gba wiiu forums but didnt get any traction, so reposting it here (if thats ok).

I was hoping to enable widescreen on games that support it (along with other stuff I would like to try). I found posts explaining cheat/gecko codes so I've been trying to get that working, everything seems ok but either the codes do nothing or the game freezes at the first screen when starting the game.

What I've been doing:
  1. Inject game using TeconMoon's injector. click on the "Nindont SD Card Menu" enable "Cheats" and "Generate Nintendont config file (nincfg.bin) which is automatically copied the the sdroot"
  2. Install game using WUP Installer GX2 to external drive
  3. Get the codes from either gamemasterplc's site or gamehacking (since geckocodes doesnt seem to be around anymore)
  4. Make sure I have the right game ID (gametdb.com)
  5. Use Ocarina > Codemanager.exe on my laptop and create the .gct file and copy that to the SD card (root/codes/GMPP01.gct)
  6. Start game from the WiiU homescreen as normal (not through any emulator/nintendont/hbc)

Am I doing something wrong/missed a step or does this only work if you use an emulator and not virtual console? I found this other post from 2018 but it involves editing files:

gbatemp.net/threads/wiiu-virtual-console-finally-fixed-no-more-dark-filter-and-widescreen-support.517158/

Not sure if I should go down this route or is this is an old method using the codes is better? For the people that use Gamecube/Wii virtual console games in widescreen what is your preferred method?
