This is great. Thanks @pandavova and @Kitlith for your hard work on this! Got my r4i b9s unbricked and running the r4 kernel properly and I've got it loaded with DS games, SNES games, NES games, Genesis games, and I'm currently playing some classic GBA games on my DSi LL via gbaemu4ds :D

One gotcha here is that (at least for me) there are only 7 chunks restored, and when restored to/as R4i B9S ntrboot the cart is not registering as inserted if your device is booted "normally", but loads up as it should using sleep/magnet.

ntrboot_flasher only writes the chunks that actually need to be written, so you may not see the full 32 chunks written. It's fine.

Also, yes, when the cart is serving ntrboot, the Home Menu won't show any cart inserted.

Can i somehow help, that my (bricked) R4i-3DS (Imgur) get "dump support"?
It's a Winbond 25Q16BVSIG Chip, here is the Datasheet.

I guess you've tried the current dumper for R4isdhc family carts already?

Can you try it with loglevel debug and post the log?

Hi, i managed to restore the DS on that card, it's now showing "touch! Bomberman land" game
I installed the ds file system on it, but when i launch a game, it freezes.

Bad dump. I've only had one game do that, and it's a bad rom.
oh, thanks, i just tried another dump and it worked.
i hate that it's very hard to insert the card just like my supercard DS2, my blue gateway card is very easy to inserted to the system.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

another question about this DS menu in this card, how to quit a game or open a menu just like DS2?

left + right + up + down + x + y + b + a + L + R

BTW: press b in the game selection to get to the ROM tab. there you can turn RTS on.
thanks, what is RTS on?
is there an option to open the menu without exiting the game? to disable cheats or make save stats?

Thread is tl:dr, I needed an excuse to make this GIF, so I guess to the people who made this cash-grab...

And this is more potent coming off the newest NTRboot flasher release adding more support to carts that are significantly cheaper than this (R4iSDHC and R4i-SDHC).

I would like to note that their flasher release is what made it possible to support it in ntrboot_flasher, so...

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
