OP
I used to read all the updates back throughout 2015 patiently anticipating a WII U hacking scene comparable to the Vwii but became super busy mid last year and lost touch with the scene(among other things). I think when the kernel hack went public is when I lost touch with the scene. From there I can see there have been even more improvements like Haxchi,Mocha,VC injection, etc but being gone for so long I have no idea where to start to brush up on the WII U hacking.

Currently 5.5.1 firmware(OFW) and can access the homebrew channel through web browser only. If I am not mistaken I should first probably install Haxchi to get home menu access to HBC for convenience. From there I guess I should install the most up to date version of Loadiine(not sure if it isn't even relevant anymore) some emulators(not even sure which exist) and maybe useful apps. From there I am at a complete loss. I have no idea how to install CFW or for that matter install Eshop tickets/games to the internal hard drive.

For that matter have the load time for WII U games improved now that we are not limited to playing from an SD card? It took 30 seconds to change areas in Twilight princess HD last time I tried over a year ago.

I really want to get into the scene again but I clearly need some advice on direction as I am painfully behind on recent developments.

Thank you if you can help advise me =).

Didsn't @Kafluke give you the link to guide he wrote?
It's possible but I don't recall and I wasn't looking for this type of advice earlier (I was more concerned trying to find a screen patch for WII VC games on gamepad). In hindsight I should have asked about this general advice first so I could cover more ground earlier.

Sorry, I guess I forgot who Kafluke started helping in another post.

It's really easy to give yourself CFW.

This was an excellent read! Thank you so much.
I guess all I am left curious about is the emulator situation (is there anything worthwhile yet like N64 or are we still limited to VC Injects)?
If I am correct SNES,GBA and some other similar 2D console VC games have been stretched on the gamepad via injection (I ask because I already know with DS and N64 it is a lot more complicated but want to know if the aforementioned console's VC games can be modded easily at least).

You're welcome.

There are a few ways to go about emulation, with the prerequisite being, you have HBAS installed, for updates to certain emulators:
Wii U emulators specifically for Wii U (NES, SNES, GENS, etc), but for most other emulators, you're left with using the vWii (PSX, Turbo CD, GC); recommend you get the HBL2HBC .elf.

There are programs that will let you make injects of N64, NDS, and so on. It can be time-consuming.

You can look for compilations of injections other have made--some with fixed ratios, some without.

If you don't have a modded vWii, you can use HBAS to get WUPhax and you should, so you get access to Nintendont.

I do have a hacked vwii mode. I just really want to use Wii U mode for a wider selection of games but more importantly native support for the game pad. In a perfect world we would be able to use gamepad in vwii mode and play gamecube games with it(control not just display) =(.

I did visit the WeYouSO site a few times but recently I keep getting warned of viruses and malware each time I try to go so I am reluctant to download any games with modded ratios from there (never mind the trouble finding them on the site). If I am not mistaken we can't link sources to roms and what not but if the process to change aspect ratios has a well written guide on here I would appreciate knowing to see what I can do on my own =).

Thanks again for everything. I think I will have the thread locked soon since most of my questions have been answered.

You're welcome. You could try searching for HerptyDerpty injects, which might lead you to that chaos site. I've never looked into ratios, but I think you have to do some recompiling, but maybe that's become an old method?

It's an older thread, but I guess it might be easy to do?

By the way, I think Nintendont can download new ini files to use the gamepad as a controller? You could probably make a forwarder from HBL to Nintendont or find the .elf, as I think it's been done by @FIX94 ? It would eliminate the Wiimote step.

while installing a vwii forwarder and using hbl2hbc to start nintendont eliminates using the wiimote you still cant use the gamepad as controller, you COULD use something like a usb controller, wiiu pro controller or official gamecube usb adapter though in nintendont itself.

I finally fully hacked my wii u =). I got CFW,HAXCHI cold boot and plenty of retroarch emulators with full screen on gamepad =).

Thanks so much for sharing the guide again =).

I did find one of the two ds games I was looking for and the full screen.json (both from herptyderpty himself).

While it is great to have full screen on ds games it sucks it requires to have my tv on as well. Do you know if there's a way to get both top and bottom screens on the game pad in full screen(obviously the screens will be a little smaller to have both fill the screen but I really like to stream movies and tv while I play video games, even on my ps4 I try to do remote play when I can on my laptop).

You're welcome, glad it worked out for you.

There should be a few display choices if you press ZR, at least five. I think the option says something about 'screen'; it should be the option in the middle, on the bottom to the right of 'load save state', I believe. Scroll through and you should find a side-by-side display.

Thank you, but I was more referring to having both screens stacked on top and filling the screen not side by side.

something like this (I know there is already an option to stack them like that but it forces it to the middle and it has black box all around it).

---------------
Top screen
|---------------| <------------------ gamepad
touch screen
---------------

UPDATE! so I went into the full screen.json file and poked around for a bit. found the layout 9 correlates to the full screen aka 1280x720=tv and 854x480=game pad

I looked it up and in particular the 854(width)x480(height) are the exact same size specifications for the gamepad itself. So what I did was move the source to drc(gamepad) kept the width at 854 but cut the height in half to 240 for both so they could fit and fill up their own portion of the screen. I then found the setting for having both screens on the gamepad and made the position the same (267, 0)(267, 240). Unfortunately while it seems the aspect ratio was perfect the position displaced the images to the right half of the screen.

But progress is progress and hopefully I will be able to get the other half covered as well so I can enjoy full gameplay on the gamepad and stream shows at the same time =).

Not bad for someone who just finally got back into the scene yesterday huh :P?

Not bad at all; great to see you're trying and learning. Ask other people about their settings. I don't mind the settings, so I never change (edit) them, but I'm sure someone else has attempted and they might be able to tell you exactly what you need to know.

I was literally just about to reply to you to let you know I figured it out.
So basically going back to the aspect ratio and positions this is what I figured out. 854 is the perfect width and 240 is the perfect hight(if you are going for a 50/50 split like in the first picture). If you wanted to make the upper screen for example take 70% of the screen and the bottom one the remainder what you'd do is go to the 854 by 240 and change it too something like 854x360. However we're not done here because the maximum height is 480 so both the top and bottom have to eqaul that percise amount to fill the screen completely so now you change 854x240 on the bottom to 854x120. Also the position needs to be changed on the bottom to reflect the increased height of the upper screen otherwise it wont move and will cover the changes (so go from 0 240 to 0 360)

There are loads of other combinations I have yet to try but since this is my perfered way of playing I guess I will try to make all the variations on the one .json file so I can switch between larger touch screen/smaller upper screen, switch touch screen to top and upper to bottom, etc depending on which works best with whatever game I am playing. Nostalgia touch screen is limited to a map and to check stat boosting effects of equipment so that is an example of a game id keep the size in the 2nd picture(but maybe it could be just a tiny bit bigger hence why I want to experiment more).

I guess next I will try to change the aspect ratio of the n64 games if possible.

Sorry for all the replies here by the way I can stop tagging you know if you'd like. I got all the help I need now so I will get the thread locked shortly I just wanted to let you know the good news =).

Don't worry about it, but that's really good news--you could probably even save the cfgs for others and give them to HerptyDerpty to add to his uploads. I'm sure others have asked the same thing before and may not have had success. Either way, this is good information.

For N64, that might be a little trickier. Maybe you might figure something out no one has thought of yet, but I think, as of now, N64 games have to get recompiled; even then, there's a chance the screen might have lines or flicker. At least if you encounter problems, it could let others know what not to do. Best of luck.
