does the layeredfs feature support MHXX? Im getting a infinite 3ds boot logo. same for monster hunter stories
I tested the current released translation and got a bootloop as well. But when I did a later crash test, I was able to get it to crash. So it's not Luma3DS that is the issue.

Update from previous nightly version(downloaded some weeks ago) to 7.0 and the previously working HANS romfs files no longer work. Does LayeredFS support conflict with HANS romfs support? Find it not easy to extract the HANS romfs files(so sad). Maybe i should use HANS again :(

What game are you doing it with? I mean what region is the game you using?

I tested Triforce heroes & Marioparty star rush (Both EU CIA) on my PAL 3DS and JP 3DS, when I start Download play on my PAL 3DS es they can find each other but my JP 3ds can't, and when I run the game on my JP 3DS the Pal ones can't find it.
Also MK7 (Gamecard crashes when I make a room on the JP 3ds)

Btw does this new cross-region download play require both of the consoles having Luma3DS?

I believe it does, haven't tested it myself though.

I don't think you can Download Play a JPN game to a US console for example if it doesn't have Luma.

You MIGHT be able to say Download Play a JPN game to a JPN console that doesn't have Luma, either way unless everyone has got CFW chances are you aren't using Download Play and if everyone has CFW you could all have the game.

I feel its a little miss-leading calling it Region-Free Download Play, its more like Region-Free Local Play, I know before this feature was added into Luma you couldn't even start up a Local Lobby in Taiko Mystery Adventure but now you can.

Last time I tested this, I tested it with Luma3DS to a private CFW and I also tested this with Luma3DS to Corbenik. All of them worked for me.

As long as whatever device receiving the game has a CFW that patches out the Region Checking it looks like it works regardless of Luma being on the client then.

That what it seems like to me and I guess my tests confirms that

this may be a ridiculous question ... but now that i have updated luma on my CTRnand ... is there any way to say load godmode9 for example from nand? ... i know luma has a chainloader and will give a menu of various installed payloads but just for giggles is it possible to copy them to CTRnand and run them from there? ... i have experimented but had no luck so i figured i would see what the community says about my odd idea (i do like to experiment alot so i can learn what works and doesent work) ... i keep regular backups for just that reason lol

also i dont really use DSi titles or stuff like that so over half my nand is still unused and i figured i would try to put some of that space to use for somthing

I believe d0k3 added CTRNAND loading support a while back. You have to have the payloads on CTRNAND in the luma/payloads directory.

thanks for the reply ... i will have to try that in the morning before i go to work ... its 1am here now and i am tired so imma go tip over now lol

well i tried doing the luma/payloads thing in CTRnand and it just acted as if there was nothing there so i am wondering if that support for booting payloads from nand other than luma/arm9loaderhax.bin was ever actually implemented ... either that or there is a luma setting i am missing somewhere .... its not too important for me to make this work ... it was more an experiment than anything

Can we change the button combo on the chainloader? It's kinda odd that you have to hold L+start to launch the start_payload.bin.

thats a good question ... i have never looked into that because i just use the chainloader function to list my payloads and then select what i want to use at the time

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
Karma177 @ Karma177: @The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really...
